Hey all, I just found this website, and so naturally I had to join.
For those that are curious, I'm running Razor's alcohol injection kit with a PT-61 turbo at 20lbs of boost.

There's also a K&N air filter stuck on there, and then the rear gear broke so it was replaced with a 373.

The timing chain has been upgraded to steel gears as well.

Most recently, though, I had a Dynomax super turbo muffler put on, just to make it sound better.

The next 2 mods on my list are an alcohol chip and stall convertor... though I really should get around to replacing the leather on my front seats and steering wheel.

I've had the car for over a year now, and have put around 20k miles on it. It's my only car so I use it as my daily driver.

What kinda times that baby run... and most important we need PICS!!! :drool: I wonder how many people still daily drive these cars. How does it sound with that muffler? Who were you planing on getting your chip from? Eric Marshall makes some amazing chips for these cars! How is the TTA for daily driving? What tires do you use? Again welcome! :cheers: :cheers:
 
hmm, how do i find which number car i have?

i dont know what times its running yet, ill find that out once i can take it to the track ~_^

the muffler makes it sound deeper, and more rumbly. its a little quieter at idle and cruising, but when you get on it, it sounds reeeally nice.

i was looking at chips at turbotweak.com

i think the TTA is pretty good for a daily, though it does show its wear if you look under the car, what with all the bumps in roads and whatnot. its a blast driving every day.

as for tires, i just use firestone indy 500's. not performance tires, but they work good for daily use. also, its neat having indy 500's on this car, ya know? im sure ill be going softer though, once that stall converter goes on.

FWIW I have a TE61, Razor's Alky, 0 pump Vigilante, 50's, THDP, TT chip and my car has been 122mph. 11.80's on pump gas.

So, how long have you owned your car?
Did you get things like the owner's kit with the car?
To get your car number, you have to send money to PHS, which is a sticky somewhere here on the site.
You will get a letter stating your car number.
Then, send you info to Chris, who runs this site, and he will put you in the registry.

wow she looks good! I think I'd shit if I saw that coming down the street on a rainy day! :) How is it in the rain? It's gotta be nuts getting into boost on wet roads! To find your build number contact http://www.phs-online.com/ and you can give them the vin and info on your car and they will send you a nice packet in the mail with the car number on it. If you want you can post the last 6 numbers of the vin and we might be able to figure it out. Congrats again and feel free to post any questions you might have! well i cant see myself sending off for the packet anytime soon so if you want to try to figure out which number it is, the last 6 vin digits are 242978.

it came with the collectors kit, unfortunately missing the keychain -.-

the first 2 pictures were taken when i got the car near the end of 05. im afraid it doesnt look that nice now.

as for driving it in the rain, ya get used to it. i try not to make boost on wet roads, thats how i got in my first accident with my first car, an 81 bandit TA.

Nice Car, I like the chrome under the hood. With the alchol injection, it should make for a nice daily driver. I would change back to 3.27 gears. Many people have found the cars go slower with the gear set you have and it will help the highway gas mileage. These are pretty easy to find, they are any of the 350 EFI GTAs, 350 and some 305 EFI Trans Ams and 350 EFI Formulas from 85 to 89.

im from dallas.

how would going to 373 make the car slower? it might have a lower top speed, but it should help in the lower end right?
 
i paid $15,500 for it, with... 48,000 miles i believe. the car was in near mint condition too, spoiler aside. it still has the original cracked one on it.
 
where did you buy it from? ebay or local? from your vin it's a low number car I think. I have to find my vin checker to see what number it might be! :cheers:

with an N/A car you'd be correct, however with a turbo car everything works off exhaust heat. More exhaust heat is caused by an increase in load on the motor, to get the load you want to go with a lower gear ratio. However if you go too low you'll lose the torque down low and if you go to a gear ratio too high you'll lose the load on the motor needed to spool the turbo faster. Amazingly the 3.27 gears that GM put in the TTAs is just about the perfect balance to give you the faster spool but still high enough to give you the torque right off the line.

Welcome aboard. I've had my TTA about 6 months and have found this site and the people on it to be great. My guess for your build # is somewhere around 700. My vin is 243831; build# is 916. PHS also includes a copy of the window sticker which shows the original dealer. Nice car. Best of luck with it.

My first NEW car was an '81 Bandit, which I still own (check out the '80-'81 Turbo section here on the site).
Mine was a black cloth interior.
What color was/is yours?
Do you still have it?

mine was VERY much like the one in the first smoky and the bandit movie. i dont have it anymore though, i had to sell it to get the 89 TA. it was real nice, all original except for the tires.

72 Firebird has the right answer on swithcing to a 373 gear. I've heard the same form many others in regard to the ratio, those who tried it and switched back to the original. These cars have plenty of torque to pull the stock gear. For the labor and cost involved I'd scratch that idea and get a good fuel pump & regulator, aclhy injection, exhaust cutout and an Eric Marshal chip. {edit) Oh duh, I see you have alcy and the other goodies. How about a scanmaster?

egh, it cost $900 to get the 373 put on, putting the stock size back on probably wont happen any time soon. i didnt have much time to think about it, since my rear end was already broken.

well for future reference and/or if your rearend ever breaks again you can pick up a 9 bolt out of a GTA with 3.23 gears off www.thirdgen.org for around $200-300 used. Sometimes you just have to look around and wait a little bit but they normally pop up for that price every couple weeks or if you ask about it someone normally has one laying around.
