Hey guys, my name is Cole, Im thinking of purchasing a 1989 turbo trans am hardtop, its 47k miles and ALL original but sitting for a few years. Still in great shape. Anyways the owner bough it from a classic car dealer in 1989 that purchased the car to resell with less then 1k miles on it. So even tho he is the original owner, technically it was owned by two dealers I guess. He didnt get any paperwork or owners packet when he purchased the car. I know the car is going to need a fuel pump, maybe a tank and sender. Im going to try an get OE parts if they are available unless something is a better alternative. Anything else i should look for before getting it running? Its been sitting less then 2 years. Another question, did all of these cars come with the pace car decals? So basicly all TTAs are pace cars?? is that correct?

Yes, I believe all TTAs came with pace car decals; except for the cars that were sent to the track, they are all pace car replicas. The fuel pump is tough to change if you don't remove the tank since it is in-tank; you have to remove the carpet in the hatch area and cut a hole in the body to get to the top of the tank. The hardtop is rare; most of them are T-Tops.

yes I have changed many 3rd gen pumps, I have a bunch of other 3rd gens, two 88 GTAs, 90 Formula 350, 86 SE, 90 v6, plus a bunch of parts cars. I will NEVER cut a trap door to get to the pump when I can have it out in a hour the correct way pulling the tank lol. Im just curious of recommended brands of pumps to replace it with. Besides OEM is there a better choice? racetronics?

Upgrade is GSS340M by Walbro. Requires upgrade harness. I've been procrastinating to do it myself for a while. But I think it's time.

Second a walbro fuel pump with the hotwire kit as well. I recommend Full Throttle for both of these parts. They have great customer support as well!

It sounds like you are on top of things there, but in the FWIW category, be sure to get the TTA-specific hot-wire kit (it is not the same as the one for a GN). I had initially gotten the wrong one and then it was a "call for a favor plus next-day-air" kinda thing for the install.
Sounds like a great find of a rare car, good luck getting it squared-away. And please keep us posted.
