New toy for turbos????

Guys,
Looks like a new toy for turbos (hopefully even backfitting for ours). It's a small electric motor on the turbo driveshaft. The motor can quickly spin the turbo up to speed before the engine! No more turbo lag! Garret Engine Boosting Systems has introduced it! You can read about it in the new Popular Science magazine-June 2001 issue, page 31. Looks very intresting!

Just something for you to see,

George

I can see something like this greatly improving the life of a turbo! Specifically the bearing! If this electric motor came on not only for instant spool, but for when you let off the gas quickly the turbo is forced to stop rather quickly. If the electric motor kept spinning just enought to keep the boost pressure constantly just above zero when the turbo is not being worked. Also, I can see monster turbos being street friendly in the future with something like this! No more long wait for full power, and no more surprises!

I did some research on this when I first heard about it and it looks like it will never really happen, the company that Garrett is dealing with announced it had the product in 1998 and it is 2001 and the product still isnt available. Don't hold your breath on this one.
