New Toy

TTA 1077

Well-Known Member
Well I did it, my new toy. '09 G8 GXP in white hot, 6 speed auto w/sport mode, hard top, onyx/red interior. 1 of 1,829 GXP's 1 of 299 in white hot. The last poncho! I purchased it from Smail Pontiac in Greensburg PA, as there were none left in NY. They did good, $36k out the door with 0% 72mo, deliverd to my door in NY. Better pictures with the TTA to come as soon as it stops raining.

Congratulations!! Those G8's are nice cars. I just got out of the car business now and one of my very last cars I sold was a white hot GT. Man those are sharp - I just love the interior!

This is what I've noticed so far! Will be taking pics today, as the rain has gone!

I've already done some comparisons and it's like apples and oranges. 20 years of refinement and technology is hard to compare. In terms of raw performance they seem pretty even, keeping in mind I’m not beating on the GXP as it only has 400 miles on it! the TTA has 56k and I don't really beat on that either. Back in '02 when I opened the exhaust I ran 13.0@ 105 on BFG street tires. I'm seeing you tube videos of these GXP's running high 12s stock. The GXP has got at least 75-100 hp on the TTA but also about 450lbs too. As far as handling the nod still goes to the TTA, WS6 is still top notch. braking will go to the GXP because of better balance and weight transfer, not to mention the Brembos. But back in '89 the TTA had the GM factory racing 1LE brake package, but suffered from poor weight transfer, even giving up 150lb front end with the V6. Build quality I won't compare as once again your looking at 20 yrs refinement. Fun factor is a toss up as well, nothing like feeling 16.5 psi of boost kicking in and propelling you past those stangs

But 415 hp of pure V8 is fun too. I feel vary fortunate to own 2 of the quickest and rarest Pontiacs!

Cogrates. That would be my choice if I could afford a new car. That LS motor ans T-56 is a sweet combo.

Had an '04 GTO and loved it, Just couldn't afford to by the car when the lease ran out.

The GXP has 115 more ponies than a TTA,
But the stock TTA has more torque
430 to the GXP's 415

Just had to add that, it's the torque that made the TTA so quick. I think that around 2800 - 3000 is the TTA peak torque, it just get more grunt faster than most motors.

Stock TTA has 430 tq? where is that number coming from? Is that completely unmodified?

The link was in above post, but...Stock rating was 250 hp and 380 ft tq.
or close to that, but everyone knows that GM will not let any other GM sports car post numbers higher than the current year Corvette's numbers.
More accurate numbers are 301 hp and 430 ft tq.
Cars with 300 hp that weigh around 3400 lbs don't achieve low 13 1/4 mile times unless they are putting out some major torque early in the powerband.

"The final car of the day, to be placed on the dyno, was the '89 20th Anniversary TTA belonging to Dave Gershon. Throughout the day there had been much discussion about the little turbocharged 231 cubic inch V6 nestled under the hood of the TTA. Just how many horsepower was this engine capable of? The factory rated them at 250 hp, but everyone suspected considerably more. A hush fell as Dave tromped the gas pedal for the first pull. The engine revved quickly. The car was alarmingly quiet! Then the exhaust sputtered brown puffs of smoke, indicating a severe lean condition, resulting in detonation. Dave lifted off the gas and we all ran over to the computer screen to see the results. 299.5 hp and over 430 ft lbs of tire shredding torque! Wow! Ralph wisely suggested that Dave not make any more pulls until the cause of the lean condition could be found. A later inspection revealed a split vacuum line going to the wastegate diaphragm on the turbo. Dave has since fixed the problem and is itching to have another go at the dyno! Perhaps we can schedule another dyno day next Spring?

I think the real world TTA HP/TQ were 300+/ 380- 400TQ respectively. I was going 12.98 with just my ATR exhaust and no cat and their pitbull chip. When the GXP is all broken in I plan to get both to the track for a test session, with 2 good drivers, side by side, 1320 all the way. The TTA may have a slight advantage with the mild mods vs a stock GXP, but we will see, should be good. I will try and get enough cameras to record from both inside and out on both cars. With that said, I strongly feel the GXP is underated as well. In the vette the LS3 is rated at 436hp/424 tq. My weight according to registration is 3980lb, I have seen video of two stock GXP's running 12.9/12.8 @ 108/109mph. Kinda like back when the LS1 cars came out, some were running hight 12's low 13's stock, but some were slow as molasses! I also couldn't help my self today! With just over 500mi on the clock I took my first kill, a Roush stage 3. Got him by 1/2 car length and stayed ahead:dance:

That's great. If I could afford a new car that GXP would be my choice. I'l jellous
