Nitpicks and suggestions?

So I've been daily driving my TTA for the past couple weeks in hopes of outlining any possible issues due to it spending a fair amount of time in storage and also poor previous ownership maintenance. I got a few things out in the open such as the heater core split open when I started messing with the heat, and antifreeze got just about everywhere in the passenger side(serves me right) and a small leak in the gas tank. All aside I had a few small things I would like opinions on and maybe people have suggestions on how to fix them? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.


First thing I noticed is the passenger side turbo emblem is crooked, enough to be noticed when standing away from the car. I'm not sure how these come off? If they can be quickly adjusted or even replaced?





The second thing is this interior piece is splitting off, this was a problem from since I got the car, It doesn't bother me a whole lot but enough to catch my eyes here and there. Is there a fix for this or can the part be replaced?




Last thing and most important of all is the passenger side popup is very lazy, most of the time it doesn't move at all but If I play with the switch a bit it will eventually make its way half way up, on minor bumps in the road it will slide down again however. I managed to get it to move a little to say cheese for a picture. Any help here would be much appreciated

I had to replace the motors for both of my headlights.

My headlights operate slowly. There are plastic "pills" inside the motors that deteriorate over time and basically turn to dust, or at the very least break into little pieces. I have a set these "pills" I plan on using soon to rebuild the motors. I'll let you know how that goes. Hawks' has these repair kits

yes order the plastic bushings and install them and they will work. Not too bad of an install and well worth the effort.

Except for the fender emblem, these are all classic 3rd gen failures as the cars age (heater core, headlamp motor, console, gas tank [at filler neck])...lots of info out there on these.

My thoughts:

Heater core - have your brass original fixed if you can. There one brand of aftermarket replacement, and pipe location is sometimes OK, sometimes not.
Headlamp motor - As mentioned, drive pucks available from Top Down Solutions . And lots of other good stuff too.
Console - I haven't review the thread mentioned above (but I will ), but all those fixed on TGO have been by gluing and clamping with a flat stick or something to spread the clamping load. Gorilla glue has come up a couple of times as a good adhesive for this.
Gas tank - Leaks at the soldered neck are not uncommon. If that's what you have, the tank can be restored (cleaned and sealed inside, neck re-soldered), or replacements are available. Like the heater cores, the replacements have a spotty reputation for filler neck location. Some find it to be spot on, other have to fight with, some never get it located properly in the filler neck pocket.

Dave, i appreciate the thought out response. I got a radiator place by me to repair the heater core, i was more than impressed with the quality of the stock heater core so i want to keep that over the aluminum replacements. I also bought a replacement tank and i plan to put that in when i have the rear suspension taken apart for shocks/springs install. I have seen the console fix in a few places and will consider it. If i can find a replacement console i will go that route, mine is warped in more ways than one.

Was planning on doing 2 anyway, the driver side is beginning to become sticky.

Just remember one headlight assembly will slide right apart because the lip on the gear is on the inside, and the other you will have to pry apart because of the lip on the plastic gear is on the outside. I thought something was seized, it was just the orientation of the lip.

wow you took the headlamps right out. I just take off the bezel and unbolt the motor to remove the motor. Car looks pretty clean, post more pics.

Yeah I got into into it at 2 am and just started taking stuff apart and ended up with both of the entire assemblies completely out of the car, repair kit comes on friday. Would you like progress pics or pics of the car?

Finally got the kit after a USPS took their sweet ass time, put it together and they work like new. Fitment could use some work but im glad it works for now

Ya it's so nice to have the headlights go up and down as they should. I can't stand the winking look.
