OTC Monitor 4000E set-up

I have a 4000E that I got for my '87 Buick Turbo-T and would like to use it on my TTA. Does anyone know how I should set it up? I tried just plugging it in and using the same set-up as on my T-T but I got no readings when I ran the car. I tried going through the menu to set it up according to the VIN codes, but it didn't give me the right options for settings, so I don't know what to do.
Does anyone know what the set-up is for using the 4000E with the TTA?
Thanks,
Charlie

Something is prolly wrong with your OTC 4000. Should boot up and ask you for year and vin at startup.

Get a scanmaster from Mike at Full Throttle Speed. Keep the scanmaster on your dash, straight in front of you... and watch for knock and keep your eyes on the O2's.

You can keep both hands on the steering wheel and move your eyes a much shorter distance to monitor your parameters on the SM... You don't have to turn your head and take your eyes off the road. It's too hard to hold and watch the OTC 4000 while keeping your eyes on the road. VERY UNSAFE!

I have one, but haven't used it in many years. If it's the same model, it would show knock as Yes/NO, not like the scanmaster as it shows in 0.00 which is so much better. Good luck with it.

Set it up like it's communicating with an '87 GN, it should scan then.

That's all I have and I use it from time to time. It is pretty easy and needs a few things like mentioned above with vin and such.

I forgot to mention...I have read where sometimes the OTC will set the ECM into "field service" mode, locking the timing at 15*, driving the IAC to "zero",and putting it into batch-fire and generally make it run like crap and hard to start.

Now, I have a snap on mt2500 brick and a pro-link 9000 and with the pro link if I have previously disconnected using the field service function it will default to that on the next communication, so I have to go into the settings and put into scan mode.

The Snap on brick doesn't do that....just something to check.

+1

You HAVE TO run the OTC 4000 in Road Mode.

Pretty sure you hit: F1 4 9 Give that a try. It's been so long since...

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I finally got it working after talking to the guys at GSCA about how to get it into ROAD Mode as mentioned in TTA076's comment. I recorded some data and have to review it, but didn't see anything yet to explain the poor performance of the engine.
Again, thanks for all the helpful inputs, you guys are a great resource.
