Plug Wires - Question

I'm planning to get a good set of plug wires to run when not @ a show ...

Reason for this is I had one of the stock plug wires fail on me with a no start condition the other day  so just like something 100% reliable when taking the TTA for a spin :cool1:

With my 3" downpipe I need some angled plug wires for the 2 front passanger side plugs and hence been looking at the MSD universal set I can cut to correct length (Black Super Conductor 8 Cyl Multi-Angle, Universal - 31193
).

Anyone running these?

Also they are 8.5mm vs stock 8mm ... will the stock wire holders / sepreators work fine with 8.5 mm wires (I suspect it wont be a problem but just want to make sure).

Any pro's or con's before I spend the money?

I bought a set of NOS Delphi wires that have worked great (once I figured out they were different lengths). With this and my Corvette being my first cars without coil-on-plugs, I've never experimented with heavy duty wires to say they have any performance advantages.

I'd think the only wire holder you'd need to worry about is the one attached to the head (or am I remembering that one wrong?)

I got those Russ Meritt type on there now. The ones Shane in Tn makes. They are msd 8.5 and fit great. Got them from gbody parts. They have the seperators on them.

Thanks guys, basicly any wire set would work but I do like the fact those MSD's have the straight plug boot that can be bent (and stays bent) as this will help me clear my 3" DP ... also I can custom make the length to be identical to the OEM wires.

However I do like to be able to use the wire seperators on the valve covers (so the OEM ones as pictured) ... will the 8.5mm wire's fit you think?

Mike, any photos of your setup?

MSD also have this set that's 8mm I'm considering ... Street-Fire Wire Set Multi-Angl plug, HEI, Univ - 5550
(and it's about half the price)

Found these pictures @ turbobuicks.com ... so looks like the factory OEM clips fits (not sure if really tight or not) ...

Heres some pic Jan. I don't have the 3" downpipe and these work great on mine. I would probably go with the MSD and custom cut them like you said earlier since you have the larger downpipe.

I had the insulator socks on there but I didn't like them. I will probably try and use the stock insulators and see what happens.

The wires have been on there since last August and they still look new, have not had any heat issues with them.

Yes and the boots on the these do bend and stay bent.

Thanks Mike, those do look good so will most likely go that route then just do a quick swap for the OEM set when at a show (maybe) ... just want something reliable on there that look nice so the black / gray combo looks good.

I'll see what I can pick up over the next couple of weeks :-)
