Pontiac announces G8 GXP!

I kind of figured the General would bring out a more potent version of the G8, I just didn't think they would announce it so soon. I was figuring a switch similar to the '04-'05 GTO with a 50hp bump and we all know the '04 owners were probably kicking themselves later. Just surprised that they announced this before most dealers have any G8 models.

400+ hp, 0-60 in 4.7, 1/4 in 13 flat, HUGE brakes, IRS, amenities galore...me likey!

A friend of mine showed me a magzine at work. It had the G8 with the LS7 Z06 motor in it. It did not have time to read it. Is this the GXP?

Nope, sounds like that is more of a project or one off car. The GXP version has the LS3 motor which is 430hp in the current Corvette but somehow detuned in the G8. There is no mention of displacement on demand (DOD) for this motor which the G8 GT has. Wonder if this will dodge the gas guzzler tax? DontKnow:

As far as cost you can get a G8 GT totally loaded for a little over $32k, base price is $29.9k. My guess would be maybe a $5k premium for the GXP package. But then again that's only my SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess). :eam:

What's up every one? haven't been on in a while! I was going through the posts and ran across this thread. I think Pontiac will soon go the way of Olds if GM doesn't get Bob Putz, I mean Luts out of there! He is destroying a great car company! Has anyone noticed that Pontiac is now the most boring devision since Oldsmobile? They have done away with all their unique marques (Bonneville, Grand Am, Sunbird, GTO, Le mans, Firebird etc.) Now they have A G8 which is just a larger version of the G6 which again is just a larger version of a G5 :wall::furious: I want identity and cool performance cars, Sorry for the rant! Hows everyone doing?:)

I had a chance to drive a G8GT a month ago. Very similar ride and haandling to the '04 GTO. The varible displacement is seamless and the six speed auto is a nice piece. I would still want the 6 speed manual. The rear doors on the G8 are a plus (especially if you ever tried to get in the back seat of a GTO).
I am not a fan of the "family resemblance" styling of Pontiac either. Reminds me of the chrysler airflow of the '30's. I think sales figures bare it out, distictive and pleasing styling sells performance cars.
I was not a real fan of the looks of the GTO, but once behind the wheel it was a ball to drive comfortable seating for spirited driving. Great open track day car (my '04 had '05 front brakes) .
Maybe the GXP 6-speed manual will cause the used 6 speed GTO prices to drop. I do miss the GTO.

Pontiac Enthusiast just had a quote by Putz, at the New York Auto Show, saying that Pontiac may no longer be the Performace Division, due to the milage requirements from the Federial Government.
Gee, don't think anyone saw that coming with Lutz behind the wheel. ;)

:beach:

After oldsmobile went bust, GM didn't buy the name after the copyrights ran out. Someone who worked at the copyright office (whatever term it is) saw this and called a family relative who happened to work for Toyota and told them it was available. Guess who owns the name Oldsmobile now? Yep, some have speculated they (Toyota) may release a car with the name on it. Google it.

Vary sad indeed! I wonder how long it will take before others in management and the shareholders decide to can this guy? I for one am not impressed with the G8. I looked at its performance in car and driver and it wasn't much better than a TTA or a GN from 20 years ago. The Gto fell on its face too, and they caned that just as it could have gotten good. That is why I'm a Dodge man now, have been for about 8 years. To many quality issues with my late '90s GMC and Formula. Chrysler says they are going to build something and they build it. No herky jerky, "well maybe we could build this, but it will have to be modified to meet us standards.!" Or my favorite, a Kick ass performance car or truck concept that gets watered down to a 4 cyl. decal job:furious:
