Production number question

How many numbered TTA's are there, 1550 or 1555? In other words, are the pilot cars numbered?

As far as I understand it, the pilot cars aren't numbered.

Actually none of the cars are numbered

There's 1550 1G5 cars (production run) and the 5 pre-production cars where all 1G2 cars then later changed by GM to 1G5 cars ... only he VIN plate in the Window been changed on those 5 pre-production cars all other VIN stickers (doors, fenders, bumpers etc) still have the original 1G2.

The official production run was 1550 thats why I stick to mine being 1078 of 1550 ....

I understand what you're saying Jan.........but I think you probably understand the question he's trying to ask?

In other words, IF those first 5 cars were "numbered", your car would really be 1083........ya know??

well the thing is you don't normally include preproduction models because normally they're never released to the public, they're like concept cars. Most of the time they're destroyed, atleast anymore, so the fact they made it to the public is amazing by itself.

Agree, so even if our cars would have been numbered from the factory the 5 pre production would not have been numbered because they were pre production / pilots and only the production run would have been numbered. So my car is still 1078 of 1550 (at least in my eyes)

Yes, that's the exact same point I was trying to make when I answered the original question.

You are correct my friend. The pilot cars are not in the TTA vehicle sequence records. The build is 1550. The Pilot Cars were owned by General Motors, hence the 1G2 VINs. At the end of the project/build, PAS purchased the five Pilot Cars from GM and changed the VINs to 1G5 to make them PAS Vehicles. The 1G5 VINs are what you will find in the dealership records if you own one of these vehicles and run the numbers through your local dealer. Yes, the 1G5 was only changed on the windshield VIN plate. But then you learned that years ago when you looked over the #3 Pilot Convertible. Time for you to visit again and add to your knowledge of the history. I will brief you on the Pilot Car initial owner history.
