Question on the launch

How do these cars launch when they still have the stock converter and turbo? I try to spool it but can barely make 2 pounds of boost before it pushes through the brakes. Even doing this it takes off lazy until about 3k rpms then takes off and pulls hard all the way to red line. The turbo appears stock and when I purchased the car all was stock even the chip. I just cant figure on this car feeling this lazy out of the gate. So far I put the ATR dp, 3" Borla, alky, comp 100lb valve springs, Fuel Reg, 60lb injectors,TT5.7, 340 pump, hot wire, rjc power plate, 21lb of boost and scan master of course. I cant stress how impressed i am with how hard this car pulls for the small amount of mods done, just wondering if this is the nature of these cars with a stock converter and turbo.

mine was lazy till after 60ft..... pull into the beams put it in N rev it up while pressing the brakes. put it back in D build as much as u can an floor it

I would pull some fuel from parameter #2 and add some timing on parameter #3.

Watch for a little knock at the top of second gear when it starts to see some engine loading.

Outside of that your looking at getting a higher stall convertor. launching off the brakes is a challenge, some people have great success, I did not...either I left at 0-2 psi or got lucky and got it up to 5 psi but then it over fueled and lagged in the 60'.

What Scott said. I would pre-stage, shift to N, build vacuum while pushing on the brakes, back to D and creep it to stage. Then build what you can. Pulled a best of I think 1.82 60' with street tires and car being very stock.

Was at the track with my GXP this weekend and best I could muster was some 2.0x 60' times. Other than that I was having traction issues.

Figure out what turbo you want then match t/c to it, BB don't need as much stall but tire spin could be a problem, lot's of thing's have to be working together but that's half the fun, figuring out what does work. A te-44bb seem's to work good with a fac. stall, and sound's cool as hell...

The rear disc brakes aren't the best for building boost if you are used to a Turbo Regal building boost at the line. Anyone tried the 2-Step on the TTA for building boost?

Thanks guys as always. Im looking into doing a turbo and converter this winter. What do you guys recommend for a good street turbo, saw the te44 mentioned.

Turbonetics Cpt61 BALL BEARING or a comparable size Precision. Like a 60 mm BB from either manufacturer. With the BB you will need less convertor to spool it up. I'm gettting 7-8 psi on on the brake with a Art Carr (California Performance Transmission) 2800 convertor. Keep it tight (low RPM) so it's not slushy feeling for streetability and will keep your trap speed higher than a 3200 rpm convertor. 2800 convertor is plenty enough to spool up a Ball Bearing turbo. Go look at Jack Cotton's turbo selection and call him up. Pick his brain and tell him your combo. Call Art Carr up and talk to him in person, I think he's still in the game, he's getting pretty old.

Also, you will for sure need some sticky tires or when you let go of the brake you will only sit and spin, and then those big ol chevy big blocks might beat you off the line.

Shawn is right. I like the BB turbo's for the street. They spool faster from 0-5psi. Like Shawn said, call and talk to Gerry at Cotton's Performance. See if you can get the newer HPC 61 Compressor wheel w/ the 62 ex wheel in the P-trim. Tnetics P-trim is equal to the stock Garrett .63 housing. That would be a Turbonetic's Ball Bearing 6162 turbo w/ Tnetics P-trim (street trim).

Or there is a stock appearing PTE GT3255 on the Turbo Buick boards for $500. Looks the stocker or TA series turbo. Rock her with the stocker:teehee:

Billet 9/11 is a great street converter. They usually stall 24-2600 @ 0psi. PM me if you need help. JMO of course. Ordering a 9/11 for the WH1 soon.

Joe

That a great option too. Those 44's do sound cool Robert.

Newer tech... the 6 blade wheel makes more noise than the 11 blade.

Joe

Yeah , they are nice.. and pricey, i would check with Bison on the T.B forum, he will hook you up and not break the bank.

te49,te44 are good for the street and work pretty well with the stock converter, but I would go with something with a little more stall.

it was at darlington .. and just my luck street night no times !!!! seat of the pants felt low 13's

My bone stock (except chip as there is no way in hell I would run a stock chip with todays gas with so much timing, around 23 degrees IRCC to the Thrashers 18) ttop car ran 13.3x at 101mph.

Ran 12.92 @ 108 back in 1994. Stock chip even, but had a gutted cat, octane booster and adjustable wastegate set to 20 psi. Stock gatorbacks spinning a bit to a 1.98 60ft.
