TTA 1077

I was going to get the TTA on the road today and as always their is a problem that puts an abrupt halt to it:disgust: The coolant overflow reservoir has a small crack and is leaking. Can you still get one from GM? and are they TTA specific? Question 2 is I want to turn down the boost a little, forgot which way to turn the nut on the actuator rod ?
 
Still available from GM. They pop up on e-bay pretty often as well. Turn it out for less boost. That is , make the rod longer to decrease boost.

They can still be purchased from GM> i just bought one about a month ago ~$22.00 :)

Try one/.5, and then go make a run. :WOOT: 1 1/2 turn is 1 psi. generally.
Do you have a scanmaster? Boost gauge?...ways to monitor stuff? This helps,
but, from my experience, it's about 1 and a half turns. Put good gas in there before testing!:)
 
Just a question, how much boost should a totally stock tta be running??
What is a safe upper limit for boost if one is all stock and running 94 octane pump gas.
 
Yes have both, Good gas is the problem, been seeing more knock the last few years as NY has added more ethanol to the mixture. last year I turned up the fuel and was putting in 100 oct at $4.89 gal. This year its up to $5.30 , so Ill turn the boost down and go back to 93 for $4.10(untill the weekend when it hits $4.30:hump:) I wonder if 100 will climb as fast as regular? my Hess is going up about $.02 a day

That statement is counter-intuittive. That's why people add alky kits to these cars so they can run MORE boost.

As said, stock boost is 16.5

although the gasoline features 10% ethanol it's still the same octane rating. The reason that they're using the ethanol is to help bump the octane of the lower quality gasoline.
 
Well something is up with Our fuel in NY. Friend who has a supercharged GP has noticed a difference as well. Also was down in PA and filled up my Ram 1500 at sunoco on the 476, was getting 16 mpg with the fill up from NY(sunoco also) and 19 mpg with the PA stuff:confused: But back on topic, Just so every one knows the coolant overflows are now discontinued as well:wall:. went to 2 dealers none available nationwide, same with advanced auto, Classic has a few left, purchased from them, GM part.
 
Wait...I'm confused now.It was explained to me that ethanol was added to displace a percentage of gasoline and there by reduce our dependence on foriegn oil. And that ethanol does add octane but requires more than, let's say 10% to produce the same BTU rating as regular gasoline as the 10% it replaced. Thus making that gallon of mixed ethanol and gas less efficent than a straight gallon of gasoline. Right? In other words it takes more than a gallon of ethanol to produce the same BTU's as a gallon of gasoline. If so that would explain why there is a mileage drop ethanol blend VS. straight gasoline.... there's less energy in a volume of ethanol the same volume of gasoline. My '03 6.0 truck would ping like crazy whenever I used a blend gas and that's how they explained it to me.

Right? Wrong?

And that ethanol does add octane but requires more than, let's say 10% to produce the same BTU rating as regular gasoline as the 10% it replaced. Thus making that gallon of mixed ethanol and gas less efficent than a straight gallon of gasoline. Right? In other words it takes more than a gallon of ethanol to produce the same BTU's as a gallon of gasoline. Right ethanol is not as good that is the reason everyone went to flex fuel because it reduced the mileage requirements for the vehicle.:crazy: but we are using it to reduce the amount of oil it takes even though you will burn more of it.:crazy:
 
On a side not. NOS also supresses detontation. Just a small 25 horse shot. A nice Chill. It's also convenient for the TTA guys since a front mounted intercooler would be a major hassle if not impossible not mention the hacking on a collector car to do a front mount. If you ever got greedy you could bump it up to 75, all supporting mods in place of course.
When I get my trans back together, I may/probably dabble in the NOS.
Lots of good info on the Buick site and users experiences. Another thing is that you can run a tight convertor like 2800 with a massive turbo, like a 67 or larger and use the NOS to get it spooling and retain a honking trap speed.

yeah that's basically all correct. The 10% ethanol isn't used to necessarily reduce our dependence on foreign oil. We used to use an additive called MTBE but because of environmental concerns it's much less common. Since then, it's been replaced with Ethanol. As for your truck pinging, the dealership that told you that would be wrong. Ping is a result of not enough octane, when you buy fuel that is rated at a given octane it's been tested to meet those standards. So 87 octane with MTBE is going to have the same results as 87 octane with Ethanol as far as pinging goes.

But like you said ehtanol contains less energy per volume than gasoline, which is why you see the decrease in gas mileage. It's a little confusing but the amount of energy by volume has nothing to do with whether it pings or not, that's controlled by when it ignites.
 
I priced 104 unleaded about 3 months ago. It was $7.89 I think. I'm sure it's went up since then.



8.55 gallon for Sunoco 112 Leaded. 11 Gallons for 112 w/ 4 gallons of 93 Sunoco and you have 107. 22 lbs. of boost without any problem. :bounce:

792-798ish on the O2's on the OTC.

$110 to fill the TTA. One month has went by and I still have 1/3 of a tank left. :hooray:

That's good to know, but just about every time I filled up in the eastern part of the state,PA, the truck would ping till I ran that tankfull out. Strange?

What about water absorption? Do alcohol(s) absorb moisture faster than gasolines? Would that have some effect?

Good explanation Jared :thumbup: although I would say that ANY fuel used instead of gasoline definitely reduces our dependence on foreign oil. It doesn't matter if it's E10, E85, biodiesel or whatever.
