Queston about the spare tire inflator

I always worry that the contents of the inflator may not work being its been in the TTA for 20 years.
Some questions:
First, Anyone know if the contents (cardon dioxide I believe is what is inside) can be refilled ?

Second question.
I carry a small Sears tire inflator that runs off the cigarette lighter. Any idea if this would be strong enough to inflate the tire especially since it is collapsed and seems that it would need alot of pressure ?
Third question
Once the spare is inflated, can it be collapsed to its orginal compact state ?

Yes it is CO2, I have had mine filled by the local Fire Extinguisher Store.

Yes it would fill it but it takes time to fill up the tire's volume.

Yes it just collapses, just remove the schrader valve. I put a schrader valve remover valve stem cap on my spares.

Three letters.. AAA :) I break down I call them and they flatbed me home ;) Every classic car guy should have that. And don't cheap out. Get the premium plus membership. Gets you almost 300 miles for FREE! It's well worth the 100 bucks a year.
 
ive been making due with the basic membership, though i do usually run out of free calls i can make. usually needing to have the TTA towed home >.>
 
Is no one self reliant anymore? Triple A? I mean, really??

Maybe the world is different in the rural areas...

But if you use it I guess it can be justified.

Other then piece of mind when out on the roads. AAA has paid for it's self many many times for me. Other then my TTA I own 7 other vehicles. One of the nice parts about AAA is if your in ANYONE's car and they break down just because your in the car AAA will tow you where ever free. I went to a late movie one night in the middle of winter. I got out at 2am. When I got in my truck and went to leave I found the fuel pump died in my truck. It was nice to dial a number and a tow truck showed up in 20mins took me 25 miles dropped off my truck at the shop and then drove me another 10 miles home for free. Then when the truck was done I called them again and they towed it back to my house. Just having that comfort feeling and piece of mind in my wallet is worth 100 a year to me! I also drive my GN to Bowling Green and Ohio every year. I'd hate to break down along the way and try to find any Buick friendly people and or parts let alone find anyone at all out in the middle of nowhere. I guess your piece of mind level is much lower then most others. ;)
 
Geez...I didn't mean to get anyone's gutchies in bunch. Accept my appology please.

I meant if I get a flat tire I change it right there,right then! Of course if I break down I have use my cell phone and call for ride... to get my trailer and drag it home myself. And yes, even at midnight.

Besides AAA is regionally either worthy or worthless. Most of the subscribing tow companies around here are worthless and I can just about guarantee a 4-5 hour wait on the side of the road. Good towing services around here don't engage in business with triple A, because triple A is slow or no pay.

What I meant was it never even occurs to me that I will break down, or get a flat. But when it does, I handle it "in house". And believe me, I drive some pieces of shit too!

But like I said, if it works for you then it's worth the money...i
 
dont worry, no bunched undergarments here. it must be nice to have a trailer. here in dallas the tow companies used by AAA are pretty good as well. reasonably fast and ive yet to get a driver that was at all unfriendly. ...it must also be nice to be able to change a flat tire :) my spare is no good. ive been lucky enough to be able to patch and fill the tire on my own on every occasion but once, when the sidewall got ripped open by something in the road. something that, strangely enough, ripped open the sidewall on another womans car 2 minutes later... i didnt have AAA then.

theyve paid for themselves for sure in my case, and have been more convenient!
 
No bunched undergarments here either. I don't wear them so they can't get bunched! :teehee:

I guess living in the city I need it more as there is crap all over the roads here and many many places you don't want to be broke down for 10 seconds with your back turned! AAA's response time use to suck as you say they are slow pay and low pay for tow company's. I've noticed they have their own trucks now and the longest I had to wait was 1:45 mins so far.
