Radio "loc"?

My radio has a "loc" on the screen, I read in the posts that all you have to do is push the "mute" button on the steering wheel controls. Well, I have push. pulled, banged on and just about every thing but kiss it, it still shows "loc" Help!!!!:censor:
 
Instead of pushing the mute button - trying holding it down for like 10 or 15 seconds............or did you do that?
 
Well, I held down the mute button for 30-45 seconds, stiill did not unlock the radio, any more ideas guys?
 
Then your radio controls are most likely not working on the steering wheel I bet. If you want PM me your address I have an extra one I'll send you so you can test it out and use it for troubleshooting. The radio controls in the center of the steering wheel are just Velcro in. Just pull on it and it will come right off.
 
My steering wheel controls stopped working. There is a company that supposedly offers a replacement control system - I can get their name. I tried to have it installed w a new aftermarket (Kenwood) radio, however unfortunately it doesn't work.

Anybody install an aftermarket replacement for our controls and get them to work ?
 
That extra one I had is on the way to you. Let me know how it works out! I have a tracking number if it don't show up in a week.
 
My steering controls don't work either ... seems to be the only issue (for now) with my car. Any ideas?

1) radio works with it's regular controls
2) the steering wheel control buttons light up when the headlights are on

If someone could give me a heads-up of what to look for (or how to test ... does anyone else have an extra pod to use for a test?) that would be great! :)
 
This is my issue too. After almost 15 years of not having a factory radio I took apart my column this weekend and traced the issue. I purchased several key pads but none worked. I found that there was a faulty pogo post connection on the circuit board connected to the turn signal switch/cancel cam (see my thread that I just posted turn signal switch) The problem is that I don't have a part # for the switch for steering wheel controlled vehicles. Found a bunch but all of them state NOT FOR VEHICLES WITH STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS! I bet this is most of the issues. There are 4 wires, one is a data connection, two are for the signal lights and one Yellow is a power. When I tested resistance at the 2 wire grey connection on the back of the radio and at the 4th pin on the yellow crescent connection in the wheel, both gave no reading. Took the harness out of the column (what a pain in the ass) I found a compressed spring in the pogo post that matched up with the power contact. If you are carful and this is your problem you can fix it on your own using a copper lock tumbler spring and some solder. But be vary carful disassembling and reassembling, as I cracked my board putting it back together, hence I need a correct part # to try and get a new one.
 
I'm not sure on our radios,
But I have heard that the "Loc" is to protect people in that if someone steals the radio, they can't use it.
I have seen some people with fourthgen radios that are locked, and have to sent them in to get unlocked.
Maybe something like this has happened.
