I have been using the stock-size full-treaded Gatorback clones by Retreads Unlimited in Anderson, SC. They are retreaded with soft compound, bite great, and handle fine in heavy rain. I need another set, but they are no longer making them.

Does anyone have a source for these tires?

I hate to rain on your parade and sound negative, but I have heard horror stories about retreads falling apart and killing people. In fact, on buick member had it happen to him..be careful
 
I've heard the stories, but I'm through three sets without incident. I suppose I have insufficient HP to rip the caps off. These tires grip like slicks and run in heavy rain!
 
Not only loosing control, but screwing up the quarter panel and paint to boot.

My buddy had the retreads you talk of and that is what happened to him. He no longer skimps on tires to say the least.

Retreads = Death or Damage and I have seen both on these boards.

I don't "skimp" on tires. These retreads are the only thing that will make traction with my combo and still be driveable in the rain! I don't plan on doing burnouts with them, just street driving. Any help in locating these would be appreciated.

How much are retreads? Do they hook better than a Nitto DR, a BF Goodwrench DR, or the Mickey T DR? Maybe this should just be a whole new thread, but while I was here...and why is it that Goodyear has yet to make a Drag Radial, I'd like to have Goodyears all the way around. DontKnow:
 
I paid $72 + shipping = $90 each. They hook similar to the drag radials I had, but are fully treaded with a gatorback clone. Good for about 15,000 miles

Goodyear does make a drag radial now, I saw some on a car at a car show a couple weeks ago. I haven't heard any reviews yet. Here's the link to them on the goodyear site, neither TireRack nor Discount Tire have them listed on their sites though http://www.racegoodyear.com/products/dot_drag.html
 
Also I guess that retreading a radial for a car is much different than a truck. I don't know the specifics or the differences between the tires but I know that with semis the tires are made so they can easily be retreaded, and each tire can be retreaded up to around 8 times I believe. So it's a common practice with semis but I imagine their tires are originally designed differently to accomodate the retreads.

And they dont pull 1.6 sixty foots or go over 80 at the most.

we ran these retreads for years !!! worked awesome .. every now an then a PITA to balance them ... we could race people in the rain ;) .. BUT that was yesteryear and thats gone .. I got 5 sets hmmmmm maybe back in 2000 ... they were bad ... bubbles ... tires came apart .. out of round ... sorry I wouldn't use them now with all the reg drag radials out there .. trying the 325/50/15 on Melissa's GN in a week or so .. dammmmm those tires are huge :D

wrong !!!! we did 1.5/1.6 @ 121 with those .. have YOU ever used them ??? way back before the DR's those were our only choice besides reg slicks
 
I never seen them hook that good!!:shock: But That is the stupidest idea to run retreads at 1.5 short times.:lamo: No offence, but you would have to say that is kind of ballsy.

ballsy ??? nah.... they weren't bad in the beginning .. we ran them for years before we had any problems . then went to drag radials ... ok now tell me I can't run M/Ts DRs on the street ;)
 
MT's or other drag radials driveable in real rain? I'm not a drag racer, but have traction problems in daily driving with street tires.
 
You can drive DR's in the rain,daily drive them, race them, ect. Just depends on how much you want to spend and how often.Soft compound puts everything on the quarters.... I prefur to drive on new radials and swap before a track outing with the DR's.
 
all my cars are driven with drag radials (wife, daughter, and me ) .. ya even in rain ... ya ya can't drive like an idiot ;) .. they are a little hairy in snow :D ..
