This week i had a good friend lose his life while working on a car.. he was in a pit that has the car drive over it, fuel related vapors caused a flash fire that set him on fire in the pit... he ran out and rolled the flames out, but he was badly burned and air lifted to Grady burn unt. in Alt where he was put in a Med. coma but lost brain function and died .... Greg was a good friend and a good person hence the reason for this post; he was 47yo and had been working on cars since he was old enough to hold a wrench, i haven't got the full story yet but as winter comes and we are wrenching in a enclosed space, think about it... just a thought.
 
I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope and wish his family all the best during this time of trial. I will say a prayer for them, only time can heal something of this magnitude.

I have a buddy here, current GN owner, that was changing out a fuel tank some years back, He was saturated by fuel while under his car, and some how, he was caught on fire, and severally burned. His arms really got it bad and parts of his lower torso. He recovered after a lot of surgeries, and due the the severity of his injuries, he was medically discharged out of the Airforce. He was very lucky. And yes, we need to think about things like this as something unforeseen could happen at anytime.
 
Yep, i told a building inspector when i did my garage that gas is not the problem, vapors are... they made me put a 1' drop for every 10ft, and the reason was if i spilled gas it would not puddle, really ? I will throw a lit cig in a pail of gas and it will go out .. throw a lite cig in the same empty pail and see what happen's... free trip to the moon.
 
I want to thank everyone for the kind words, i also want everyone to know it was not my intention to bum everybody out with bad news.. i mainly wanted to point out that this happened to a guy that not only had years of exp. but also did it for a living.. six days a week. It has been said that familiarity breeds complacency, hopefully that wasn't a factor here.

I totally agree. Familiarity does breed complacency! Complacency kills, period! I always preach safety, and doing things right the first time. No exceptions, if and or but's about it. With 14yrs in Aviation, I've seen my fair share of mishaps over the years in which live's were lost. A lot of these accident could have been prevented. None the less, I truly hope it wasn't the reason in this case when the investigation is over.
