??? Scanmaster Readings ???

Ryan Nakamura

Just hooked up my scanmaster. Don't have a clue what to look for. Here are the values I got. Took some readings at idle and some with the engine off.
How do you read the O2 and retard readings? It was jumping all over the place at idle and running down the street. Got a bunch of reading at WOT. Is the retard degrees the amount of knock you get? Well, hopefully I can make good use of this toy.

Idle Engine off

Ok, see if I can cover most of them:
O2s are usful at WOT, otherwise they are all over, at WOT they should be around .780-.800, the higher it is, the richer it is. You really want the lowest O2 without getting any KR. And yes, spark retard is Knock.
You don't really want any KR, but 1-2 degrees is tolerable for me at WOT, some believe that any is too much, it can eventually takes its toll on the bearings, too high, and you can easily blow a head gasket, or worse!
IAC is good at idle only, should be between 10-40, I like them lowest as possible around 10 but not 0.
TPS is throttle position, should be at .42 at idle, and at least 4.5 at WOT, be sure you are pressing all the way down on the pedal and the carpet is not under it. Go by pedal motion.
BLM's tell you how the car is running rich or lean at different rpms and loads- 128 is perfect, any higher shows it is lean, any lower it is rich, don't usually want those more than +-15 from 128. There are 16 different BLM cells for the different rpms and load, some of which can never be reached because of impossible combinations.
MAF is the mass air flow, 255 is max at WOT but many don't go that high at WOT so don't be alarmed, but should at least be 220+. At idle I think it is usually around 6??

Hope that gets you started. Go to www.gnttype.org in the Technical Sections and look around, there's tons of tuning info there that cover alot of this in detail.
