soot on rear bumper

Has anyone else notice soot on their bumper after driving a bit? I wash the car, go for one drive, then notice tiny little carbon specks covering the rear bumper. What gives??
 
Ya that always happens. I open the hatch after washing and dry as well as I can under it and on top of the tail lights. But no matter what I still can't avoid it. My cousin has a camaro and same problem.

Just gotta touch up the backend when you get home. I am always toughin up my neighbourhood is so dusty with new homes around here. It is really annoying.
 
to add...some of it has gotten worse since I started racing it...so much so that some of the black specks aren't coming off too easily.

It's a curse of a white car I suppose...

ALL the time. I had Eric turn the fuel up in the chip just so she runs a little on the fat side and sometimes that makes it worse back there! I have a California duster I use all the time. It is a bitch getting it out from around the license plate that's for sure!
 
And what about this one... I can't take my TTA around the corner without getting bugs on that nose!!! If I take any trip like half hour 45mins I'm working on the nose for an hour cleaning the damn bugs off! I can't even picture one of these as a daily driver around these parts!
 
I think the soot is from the moisture condensing in the cold exhaust picking up carbon deposits from running a little rich. I find Mcguires or Mothers quick detailer works good on tthe soo as well as the buggs on the front. Fresher the buggs, better it works.

This is interesting.... I always assumed I didnt quite have my car tuned properly. I have this problem as well.
 
I get it too. Not too much but a little bit for sure.

When I race with my cutout open all I get is dust and not the "black" dust.

I thought so too until I put the Magnaflow exhaust on that only exits on the drivers side. I still have the stuff evenly across the bumper. I'm thinking it could have to do with the shape of the spoiler sucking road dirt up. I don't remember it on my '87 GTA, but then again it was dark red and it has been 20 years since I had it.
