Spark plug reading

I pulled the plugs out of my TTA last night. AC delcos. The TTA has Alky and probably running around 400-450hp with all the mods. A few observations I could use some opinions on. (1) The 3 plugs on the passenger side are noticably different - yellowed and different heat mark (running a liitle cooler). (2) The 3 plugs on the drivers side are clean with heat marks more on the hot side. The heat marks on both plugs are at or below 1/2 down toward the base vs being closer to the electrode so I'm switching from AC Delco (heat range 3) to NGK 3346 (heat range 7) to see if that helps. Any ideas why the discoloration and what looks to be carbon buildup oly on the passenger side head? Seems to indicate a rich condition but how can that happen only on one side?

Since every car is different the PL allows you to record and play back all the info vs. real time only with the scanmaster, the 3346 is a good plug but it doesn't like to idle alot so driving habits may be a issue.

Jason told me about 3346 a few years back. I use them too. No issues so far with about 1000 street miles. I always mash it from 1st till I hit 3rd gear when I take it out.

If you are idling a lot with these cars.....it's time to sell.

Joe, have you ever read the 3346 plugs to see where the heat mark is? The only potential issue I can see is being too cold but with the alky I don't think that'll be a problem. I plan on reading them after stret driving and then again after 'spirited' driving. For no other reason than I'm curious at ths point. I'll post up pics when I have them. Any ideas on the differece in plug color between drivers side head and passenger? I'm racking my brain on this one.

Just a stab in the dark but since its different side to side vs. front to back maybe ing. or inj./fuel rail related ?

I was under the impression that I would have to replace them every 250 + street miles. I pulled #3 last year and it looked "normal" condition to me after 500 miles.

I might pull #3 again this week and let you know. 1000 miles all together... Idles great now after 2 years. Really idled well after TR6 unit, SD and these 3346 plugs.

Looks like clogged injectors. I would clean injectors first. Then put new plugs in and go WOT well into 3rd and shut it off. Pull all plugs again and see what ya got.

I ran the NGK BR7EF, which I believe is the same ones you guys are talking about, It was the only plug outside the OEM ACDelco's my engine would tolerate .

They did tend to load up a bit in stop and go driving.

Thank you very much.. But to the OP if you live in a mild climate or have a climate controlled garage or just don't start it for 4 months at a time you will be fine.. oh yeah, and no traffic, or you just want to start it for the hell of it, then you will have a problem, because they Don't like to idle...

Hey Rich, I thought that was normal for stop and go driving with a colder race plug.lol Once I leave downtown and hit it a few times on the main roads it runs well. They would perform better at the track than on the street. I like them.

Update, I installed the NGK 3346 plugs. The car idles great, runs awesome (might be the colder weather too....can't tell this time of year) and no problems. I ran the car and pulled 2 plugs and the heat marks were much better than the AC Delcos. If you are running alky these may be a good option as they are colder plugs.

+1

They are a great plug. That's all I use.

There are so many better options then those junk AC Delcos from Mexico.
