Since its been in the 90s outside I go for a ride and then go start it again and sometimes cranks but doesn't start unless I hold the gas down.

Do you have confirmed fuel pressure? Not seems good, but via a gauge?

To me it sounds like you have a failing starter solenoid OR check your battery connections. Go check the battery connections. Our GN wouldn't start when it was hot for over a year. Replaced all sorts of parts. Turns out the negative battery cable connection was loose. Never rule anything out and it is simple to check.

Hope you get it running soon.

Starts okay cold,right?....
Doesn't start warmed up,but cranks over right?....
You have to push the pedal down to get it started, right?

Coolant temp switch that the ECM "uses" maybe bad and it's overfueling after warm up...and you're putting it into "clear flood" mode when you pin the accelerator to the floor while cranking, which shuts down the injector(s).
If it's the coolant temp switch that is bad then it's telling the ECM that it's -22*

Wait a minute....our cars shut down the injectors when you go WOT with the car off? Do you know what TPS it requires to do so?

I thought that GM started that in 2005 with the E38 PCM. Great info.

The 730 ECM (speed density) ECM does, and I assume our 148's do to because it's point F.I.

If I remember, the TPS needs to be at least 3.00V and engine RPM under 400(cranking speed) to set the "clear flood" flag.

I guarantee my '97 Vortec truck uses clear flood mode because I had to use it to make it home from Akron,OH when I shut it off a couple times along the route....I had a bad CTS and knew it, but didn't have time to wait for a Delco switch and I needed to make the drive over that night.
Once started, it cleared up but ran rich....and it never threw a code.

But if I had to guess on the earlier ECM's I'd say that his car gets started and goes into " limp home mode", whereas the next gen PCM's probably can compensate for out of scale data as compared to the other inputs it's receiving.

EDIT: and "shutting down the injectors" is an exageration, more like "chokes the DC and PW waaayyy down"
