supercharging and the computer

Hi everyone, i'm new on here, live in New Zealand, i own a 1988 GTA Trans Am and have a question for those in the know, well proberly a few questions...

ok so here goes:
ok so i know some of you are going to hate this idea but I want to put a 671 or 871 blower on my 350TPI, i figure i'm never selling the car as its my baby so why not....... soooo....

If i change back to twin carbs for the blower, will this cause the computer to shut down the rest of the car?

can i just disconnect the fuel, air part of the computer and all gauges will still work? oh yes it has the digital dash option too

if yes, does anyone know a solution?

if no, where should i disconnect from?

A few things come to mind..one is you'd need to find the blower manifold base that is drilled for the TPI's angled center bolt(s). Second is the ECM(computer) will be taken out of the loop completely. No way you could you modify the bin on those 165 ECM's to run a blower, that means developing a mod that will lock the convertor,enable the A/C etc.None of this is beyond the realm...if you have the knowledge. You could use one of the syclone/Typhoon ECMs and modify it's bin to reflect it's use as an 8 cylinder.

If you're going for the "look" of blower coming up out of the hood then just buy a pre '86 long block and forego alll the originality of an 88 GTA.

But, if you're going for power then the path of least resistance is a procharger supercharger. It's a bolt on kit that comes with everything and can be used with your existing ECM http://www.procharger.com/GM/TPIF-body_UH.shtml it's by far the least expensive way to add 9-20 ilbs of boost to a TPI. And you can keep your digital dash.

Those procharger kits are cool. I used to want to do that to my 305 TPI GTA, but I got the Turbo shortly after. ANyway, I remember a few guys at the local drag strip back in the early 90's that had those. They didn't wake them up like a similar kit would on a 4th gen LS1, but they had good results. They went from like stock 15.00 QM to like mid 13.30's which was good back then.
