TA perf diff cover install, Any tips?

I was thinking of getting a whole new rear end but am putting it off until next year. I was just pickin up some oil and saw a TA diff cover so I grabbed it. Any tips for install on this baby? Is it better to use the supplied gasket or red rtv? Also what do I torque the bearing cap bolts to after machining them?

quality piece i put mine on last summer, i used a grinder to do the flattening of the bearing caps, it did a great job

I used the gasket and red rtv I believe. I put the rtv on and let it set till it wasnt sticky and then let it on for 2 hours and then filled it up

I *believe* that they only get a light preload like 5 ft.lbs.

Of course, every time I do something I break something cause I'm such an awesome home mechanic. My first mistake was collecting the diff oil into a catch can without having a container to transfer it into. Now my shop stinks like crazy!!!

Next I checked my firebird manual and found that the main bearing bolts torque to 55 so ya I go ahead and do that and break a bolt!! Are these factory bolts single use??

I finally got it out

I'm gonna order the bearing stud kit from TA performance and not break anything I hope......

Did you get the arp upgraded hardware? If not do it

55 is WAY WAY WAY WAY too tight.

The rear cover bolts are 14 foot pounds. The bearing caps are 5.

I used blue rtv and the gasket. I let it sit overnight.
