The Price Of A Oil Change These Days

Getting ready to do oil change today. Went and got Napa Gold 1086 and 5qts. of Valvoline Vr1 at Napa today.

The price of the filter was $18.69 up around $5 from last year, and the oil was $5.79 up less than $1 per. qt. from last year.
Total price for oil and filter was $50.98.

Glad I don't drive it much as this could get pretty costly!:D

The Wix 51086 might have been cheaper, I will check that next time.

Mike - I had to buy some parts so I just bought the Wix 51086 from Rock Auto. It was 11 and change. I checked around and the Wix is about 18 bucks elsewhere. Crazy. I could never figure out why that oil filter is so much more then other Wix filters.

I think I will do the same at Rockauto.com and get the Wix, have always liked buying things there.

The increasing filter price could be a supply and demand thing, maybe not many applications for this filter!

Yeah - I just bought a bunch of parts for my 1982 TA from them. They are definitely more reasonable then a local auto parts place. Shipping could get you a bit as they ship from different warehouses and it adds up. I had something in my cart for 6 bucks and shipping for that 1 part was 7 bucks as it was the only part shipping from that warehouse so I had to modify the order a bit.

Just dig some of that money up you got buried in the back yard...:teehee:

Good tip on the Wix filters from Rock Auto.
When we got #545 in the spring, I sent one of the kids to NAPA to get a couple of those NAPA Gold filters... of course she forgot to take the note that I gave her with the "details". She kept telling the NAPA person that it was a "TTA", but that terminology didn't help - thus I ended up with filters for a 5.7.
So... when I went back to exchange them, I thought it would be an "even swap" NOT. When I asked for an explanation of the giant price difference, they said that the "list price" on the filter was something like $32 - ouch!
Apparently is is very low usage size DontKnow:
I have been able to get Shell or Pennzoil full synthetic on sale at BJs and Pep Boys for reasonable cost, a little under $5 per qt (will add ZDDP).

FWIW, I needed a part for our van - ended up getting it from PartsGeek, the shipping was less than 1/2 vs Rock Auto for that specific item.

Everything is up! I bought stuff tonight to make a tuna casserole, I spent $12!
I used to eat this when I was in college to save money, I thought I'd be saving money tonight!
Geez, I guess I'll be stepping down to Ramen noodles next.
Guess I need one of those shovel ready part time jobs so i can have ground sirloin again.

Yes, inflation is getting out of control. Usually in spring NAPA has the sale for 1/2 off the gold filters. I didnt get any last yr, but in 2011 got the Gold 1086 for $6.71 each + tax. I am out now so will need some. I wonder how much they will be?

As for oil, we get ours from a supplier and buy in 5 gallon pails. In January got 5 gallons of 10W30 for $77.50, so that breaks down to about $3.88 a gallon. It is proguard and is a synthetic blend. I always add the ZDDP.

I am seeing a HUGE increase in the cost of raw materials for my greenhouse business. Granted, the cost of plastics is way up because plastic is petroleum based and we all know about that. My cost for media (dirt, soil, vermiculite, etc)has gone up 30% from last year. It will be a real challenge this year to be profitable as a small business without raising the prices as much as the raw materials.

try changine oil in a duramax wix oil filter fuel filter an screw on trans filter plus oil !

I just bought two 1086 wix at the local Napa for $12.50ea, at O'reilly's VR-1 is only .35 cent a qt more than reg. Valvoline...

Kinda hard to stock pile anything with 3 TTA'S sitting here... never short on Budlite though...

For cars I keep around a long time, I have been buying filters and oil by the case (when on sale) since I was in highschool. It has saved me a ton of money over the years..

This is "half off" week for Napa Gold filters at our local parts store. Went down this afternoon and gave them $200 worth of business. Got 2-3 oil filters for each car, a couple for the tractors and a few air filters. The 1086 for the TTA was $8.47. Up about $1.50 from 2 years ago. They had some in stock but had to order some. I can pick up the rest in a couple days. The counter guy told me they are having a car show/cruise in next month, so I told him I'd bring down the TTA if the weather was cooperative.

All I know is my 2005 Audi Allroad with the 4.2L takes 9.7 quarts of synthetic at $160 per oil change at the dealer. YIKES! Luckily it is only about once a year. lol

That is great prices! I change the TTA filter once a year with the NAPA filter and in the Syclone it is using AC Delco filter and it was just changed before I bought it so don't have to do it for a while.

I need to check with NAPA down here and maybe they will have a similar sale sometime.

You must be paying for that German oil! LOL
The 6.2L LS3 in the GXP is only about $80 at the dealer.
