Thinking of buying a TTA..

but what is the opinion of the board regarding having to re-paint parts of a TTA car? Does it diminish the value? The reason I ask is that I have noticed a few that need the rear spoiler and possibly the roof re-painted but have been a little hesitant because of it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome!
There are a ton of cars with a new fiberglass rear spoiler, and everyone had to repaint those.
There are even people who have had to restore their cars. With complete repaints.
And people who have had to just repaint certain parts.
Will they lose value.
Not sure.
I am not worried about it.

The spoiler is a common problem with all of them. My car's spoiler was cracked at 16k miles and I've seen a 4k mile car with a cracked one so that's a normal repair. The other repaints if done right I don't think will hurt the value. It's crucial that you use a good shop that can match the paint and blend it in well with the rest of the car. The original paint on the TTAs sucked horribly there's drips everywhere and stuff in the paint.

That depends of how collectable that particular car is. A car with 1K miles and original unrestored would suffer by having a repaint. But a car with some miles on it that isn't purely an investment play will not be that affected ... Unless the quality of the work is poor of course!

depends on the collector and the car, just like the paint. If it's someone looking for a 100% stock museum piece then it's going to hurt the value, but in my opinion it shouldn't hurt it since realistically it's helping preserve the car by keeping it from flexing and twisting.

I agree with TurboJoe on the SFC addition. I would have bought my 1,200 mile TTA if someone had already installed SFC's. But I would not have bought it if it had been repainted in whole or in part.

Then again, I'm a big fan of SFC's so I might be biased. But most collectors are biased about something or other anyway!

I would not put them on my low mileage TTAs, but if I had a car with 30K or higher miles I would consider it. If your are going to make mods for more powere then it is a must on the T-top cars. The cars have shown cracks in the roof line seams when they are pounded on....

Thanks. I was unaware. Just over 30,000 mark for me. I have been thinking about it. They have them at johnsperformance.com . I picked my TTA a couple months ago. Car is a beauty and is super clean. Bought for a 60 year old gentlemen. He had it for 10 years and put 3,000 miles on it. Mostly stock except ATR MAF, K@N,Chip,10 MM wires. I have the original wires but the owners kit was not included. Still need to find my build number, but I have been so busy lately. Plan to drive it maybe 100 miles a years and keep it forever.
