to buy or not to buy suspension mods...??

Hey guys,

I am gonna get a new tranny for TTA 365 and wondering what you guys think of getting a new torque arm and subframe connectors while I am at it.

The car is running a best of 11.70s et and best 60 foot is 1.79. I have MT but am wondering if some new suspension will help my launch. I am also getting a new converter of which stall is yet to be determined according to my cam shaft and turbo size. I sent the specs to the tranny builder.

So should I spend money on suspension, or just wait and see what happens with new tranny???

SFC I would say yes, I was reluctant to get them until I drove my old hardtop (nope not a TTA or I would have kept it :-)) I had sitting in Sweden for ages before I eventually sold it and the difference in chassis stiffness between the two made up my mind. And I can feel the suspension doing all the work after getting the SFC installed in my t-top TTA and not the chassis flexing.

For the torque arm I'm not sure but the OEM piece being a stamped piece of sheetmetal I suspect it would make a difference and you would be able to adjust the angle as well .... TTA850 (Steve) would be able to give you a good answer on this one based on his experience.

I went 1.63 60ft with a basicly stock (stock turbo, intercooler, injectors, trans, rear) TTA years ago so there should be a bunch left in your car even with stock suspension and I always prefer to spend time and money on things that need to be replaced.

That said my GTA has heavy south side subframe connectors, hotchkis trailing arms and panhard rod, and jegster short torque arm. Alot of these are over 10 years old, heavy, and not adjustable but work awsome :) the car has gone 1.47 60ft and is a consistant 1.48-1.49 on racegas though it has been 1.509 on pumpgas.

Right now though I'm really liking UMI suspension products on my fourth gen T/A buildup, and the third and fourth gens share alot in the rear suspension that I'd guess their stuff would be excellent for a TTA as well. I've been a bit more weight conscious with this buildup and have opted for everything in chrome moly and while the price goes up the quality is tops, so far I've only installed the 3-point subframe connectors and tunnel mounted torque arm but the look of the rest of the stuff and the strength and articulation provided by the roto-joints should work ecxellent on the street and the strip.

Hope that helps,
Steve

My TTA suspension is 100% stock and original...so far my best 60ft has been 1.53 on a 11.18 @ 119.7 pass with Mickey Thompson DR's...oh yeah and I have a trans brake :D

I will be adding subframe connectors before Spring and a set of tubular lower rear control arms. Figure it would be a smart move with 1.5 60ft launches.

Not my best pass but you can see how it launches off the trans brake at 10-12 psi with the stock 20 year old suspension...not to bad huh :D

Hey thanks for posting, maybe I will see what kind of launches I can get with my new tranny and some more seat time at the track.

THanks for the replies!!!!
I would like to get the spohn suspension stuff though eventually, but the darn transmission is so much money that it would be alot easier on the pocket to wait and see.

But then if I have the new tranny and I don't get better 60 foot times I will have to buy the suspension mods right?? and if I get the new tranny and get 1.5 60 foots than I will have to upgrade my suspension to handle the torque?? Hmmm..... I am getting dizzy.

I better wait and see what shipping is gonna be on my transmission all the way from Sacramento CA.

THanks,
Jarred.

Spohn K-member frees up alot of weight

that is on my list down the road for sure...frees up lots of weight and much easier to work on...especialy if you have to pull the pan for some reason

if I do the torque arm I would like to do the upgraded trans crossmember as well and drive shaft loop.
