Hey guys my trans mission is acting up.Last week took my tta for a Saturday cruise pulled up to a red light, got the green I gradually gave it gas it seems that the rpms went to 5 grand felt like the tranny was slipping ,let off the gas the it engaged it doesn't do it all the time.I thought it had something to do with the tv cable being out of adjustment or it was sticking, with the engine off pressed the gas pedal about 10 to 15 times. So I took the car for a ride yesterday now I notice a clunk when you get on the gas a little then it takes of like a bat out of hell, feels like it has something to do with the converter.Maybe the tcc solenoid is bad, what do you guys think any input would be helpful.thanks:eam:

if its doesnt work out let janis build it with full billet parts ! I sent 2 of them to him to do at the same time. with bruces bottom feeder pan kit .. pan looks awsome

If you slipped it hard to once, the trans is toast. Revving it to 5000 with it slipping will burn the clutches in short order.

My transmission literally started slipping after being parked in the garage. Parked it one weekend after being completely fine and the next weekend it had a 2-3 shift flare. Once your transmission slips, its time for a rebuild. My tranny lasted 5 more quarter mile passes before it was worthless.

How long have you owned the car? When was the last time you changed the transmission filter?

TCC solenoid has nothing to do with this particular issue.

Don't touch the cable. The cable hasn't moved since 1989. I'm sorry, but that isn't the magic fix for it..touching it will only cause more issues if you set it wrong one time.

Drop the pan and change the filter. Add a drain plug while you are there because you need to change the fluid a few more times. My guess is there is debris in the filter that settled after sitting and caused cavitation during that first drive.

The clunk you hear is most likely totally unrelated...may even be your ears playing tricks on you.

I wish you the best of luck but more often than not once you notice a problem it's too late, rebuild time... the clunk you hear likely is the rearend ,which most TTA'S make that noise sooner or later.

going to change the filter and fluids this weekend, and hope for the best. Its weird because the car only has 39,000 miles, and its all stock.Doesnt do it all the time just did it twice in a month ,hopefuly its just the filter and fluids got my fingers crossed.THanks for the input guys will keep you guys up dated....

Hey pont1230,
Unfortunately the weekest link on the TTA was the transmission. If you want to keep the car it' a good thing to invest in a properly updated tranmission that can handle the torque. The peak torque curve on even a moderately modified buick turbo produces alotta torque early in the curve- like @ 2600.

So the trans has stress from the factory IMO, and so they falter.

I had to change my TTA's trans once before, then again with the BILLET stuff through CPT. Here is a link below to my transmission change.. May help you I hope. The real Art Carr is who I went to. He will talk to you live in person on the phone if you have questions. He's a pro dude, and has been in the trans biz for years and has product history for sales and service. Google CPT transmissions.

Don't know if this is protocol, but just joined this fine group and I also have a driveline question. I do not run my TTA very hard, because I got my fix of pounding on nice cars back when I owned a new 429 Boss Mustang.

Just got a new driveline noise in my TTA that can only be duplicated when the car is off and in Park. Level garage floor too. When I rock the car front to back, I get a harsh metal to metal sound right up the entire drive train. Thinking a tranny problem, but would appreciate your suggestions as to what the problem might really be. Meant to add it is a clunking sound like a broken spring or something.

I'm not the TTA expert most here are, but if this were any other third gen, I'd be looking at the front bushing (at the transmission) for the torque arm, which runs forward from the rear axle.

wow metal to metal noise when you rock the car back and forward probably a bushing problem your best bet is to put it on a lift or putt it on jacks and inspect all suspension bushings, tranny mount, engine mounts ,anything that has rubber .

Even had a tech crawl under the car (not easy to do when on the ground) and use a stethoscope while I rocked the car (gently) back and forth. He started at the rear end and both rear wheels and springs and worked forward. As he worked forward, he stopped at the tranny and said it sounded impeded in the tranny. Also hoisted up and checked all rear bolts and checked the driveshaft play. All were normal.
