TTA #193 for sale, BAD INFO!

After a very long search for the right TTA, I have learned a lot. I was almost screwed due to a bad car fax. I stumbled across an ad on E-Bay yesterday and found a TTA for sale, 300 some miles on it. After reading the description on what was said, I noticed some incorrect information.

This is in part of their description:

VIN#1G5FW2171KL235354

"This car comes with those items and only has 310 original miles and the original tires. In addition to three pace cars, an additional 162 “Festival” Turbo TA’s were at Indy for VIP and parade duty. All of the cars at Indy, including the three pace cars, had T-tops and cloth interiors. This car was one of the Festival cars used at the track in Indy making it even more collectible".

This is what I sent to the seller:

"The last VIN sequence # for the festival cars was 228429, which was #152. According to your VIN# 235354, #193 was never at INDY. Pontiac and PAS produced 187 Cloth and T-Top combos for the total year of production.
Also, people out looking for these know a bit about them.
Just a little advice. A very nice car though. Good luck with your sale."

He pulled the "ask a question off the site and it still being advertised with false information.

I there anything that can be done for mis-representation?
Just bothers the heck outta me that's all. It's not right.

Hmmm....It seems to be a very nice T-Top Cloth car and looks correct for the mileage based on the pictures. Look at the attached list I provided and it does show that vin as Festival #154.

Mike,not doubting you, but PAS shows 235354 as #193. Hummm?

Yep Mike is absolutely correct.

Note that the VIN sequence number got nothing to do with if the car where at Indy or not ... it's not as simple as just the first X number of TTA's built where used at Indy hence I included this information in the list Mike linked too.

The PAS website do give the wrong impression in this case

And I got the Indy 500 sign-out sheet for the car on ebay so I know it's been there and used (well limited usage as the car had electrical problems so hence the low mileage lol) ...

Lots to learn and understand about these cars and we try to post as much information on this site as possible to help everyone out.

Anyway if other questions let us know and we are happy to try to help.

Anyway funny enough I got a document in front of me from PAS dated Oct 31st 1989 with all the manufacturing details about it ... something the owner don't have I'm sure ... cloth/t-top from the factory ... transmission no 255 ... engine no 231 (sticker should still be on the oil pan driver side) and build dates as well and left PAS on 2/9/89 so well in time to be used @ Indy

Thanks Jan. I figured this was the place to find out TONS of info! That's why I joined after all this time! Info overload big time! It's not my 88 GTA, that's for sure.

193 is not the PAS build number; it's the VIN sequence number.

PAS used the powertrain sequence number on the documents for each car and powertrain to track them for warranty purposes I guess; Scott Kelly can tell us more about it I'm sure :eam:

I actually read about this car somewhere. So this is it....wow.
My Wife is so fascinated with all this history of these cars, she even called a guy in Texas yesterday to tell him to register on here!

Sorry no it's not the barn find ... got it mixed up as I had that one on the same piece of paper from PAS ...

So this one (and I found it on ebay) is legit and not been painted lol ... and when the original owner sold it the car came with some very rare items from Buick and Pontiac as they guy worked at BOC at the time and got his hands on some very cool documentation and video's ... not sure if the stuff is still with the car or not.

I could be wrong but it sure looks like a little overspray on the sway bar, guess it could be a shadow.

The "barn find" TTA had about 9xx miles on it and I believe it was festival car #108 and TTA #113. I have the info in my records.

It is good BobTTA#464 that you are taking an interest in these cars and learning. I have owned mine for 4 years and still learning.

This is a lot of BS on ebay-people that talk sh-- and act like they know a lot about the TTA and they dont know anything. This forum is the best place to be to sort all your questions and problems out.:cheers:
