i am going to break down and order a full set of emblems(not decals) i know some of you guys have replaced yours and was wondering how to get them off without doing any damage, i heard they are worth 15 to 20 hp :WOOT:
 
Robert - I never tried it, but I was told that a good way to remove emblems is with fishing line. Just pull it across the back of the emblem and it should come off.

I can speak for the one on the hood, First if you are getting the set from Carmotorsports the hood emblem will not have the slight curve the orig one has.

When removing the hood emblem you have a speed nut that attaches to the back of the emblem. It is hard to get to. I think I had to remove a few things so I could get to the speed nut.

All of your old emblems probably were put on with the original backing tape. Sometimes hard to get the old stuff off.
 
if the old fishing line doesnt work after u slightly heat it up with a heat gun ... u can buy a set of plastic pry tools an use a cloth aginst the paint .... i have a set if u would like a pic

was looking at the 9 piece set from classic.ind that includes the headlight emblem for $339, i will ask about the curve on the hood emblem, but of course it is what it is if thats the only thing you can get

The one I put on the hood now is not curved but it is hardly noticable. I have a new nos headlight emblem I haven't put on yet. Got it from Modern Day Muscle.


A heatgun should loosen it so you can remove the old ones.:bye2:
 
Same with mine on the hood. Not bent that much. I tried to bend one a little and cracked that one so don't force it to bend!

To get the old ones off I used a industrial heat gun with a flat head jewelers screwdriver on the one corner lightly prying and making passes with the heat gun. It took the glue and everything off nice and clean. Wiped the car down some some alcohol and put the new ones right on. I didn't want to fight with 22 year old emblem glue.
 
Classic Industries sell the Australian emblem set from gtaemblems.com and you can save $100 or so by ordering a set directly.

Curvature of nose emblem is a slight problem with both repros out there.

Carmotorsports have fore some reason black on gold writing of the 20th Ann... Text on their nose emblem making it incorrect and their emblem got pretty much no curvature to it ... Also their rear white bird emblem is slightly off.

thanks jan! you the man! just ordered a set from gtaemblems.com, saved over a $100 and got 2 free extras. glad they had some left, they discontinued them early this year :worthy:

Good choice Robert, have been using some emblems from this place ever since I got my car.ttarider
 
And BEFORE you remove your original emblems make yourself some sort of templates so you can install the new ones in the exact same location
 
Here are some pics of the orig. front emblem removed, showing the curvature and the speednut on it.
 
How do you get the rear emblem off without messing up the center tail light section? I would be afraid to use a heat gun there.
 
Also - is it possible to get the gold replated on the old ones? My rear emblem is perfect except for some fading on the plated portion.
 
:lol: - you are right Robert! That is about the only one I have that lost the gold plate. The rest look good - at least for now. I am thinking about picking up that set you just bought.

Robert I ordered a 10 pc set like you did. Since they are going to quit having them by the end of 2011, from PWD-Aussie.


I have been using their sail panel emblems and they are holding up nicely. Now I can do away with my carmotorsports front emblem with the black writing.


As with the bird emblem on the backend, mine is original and it has little or no wear on the gold.

good deal imo, even if you dont need them, $100 less than everyone else plus you get 2 free ones, who knows 5 yr from now they could be worth $800 plus, you can get them now for $241 shipped :toot:
 
Got the 10 pc emblem set today. Nice, very nice. Even comes with emblem placement guide so you could measure and make sure that are right. Even the headlight emblem has a guide for correct placement.

I haven't put them on the car yet. This was a great deal for 10 emblems for $241 total. May even buy another set to keep.

when did you order yours? did my order 9-12-11 and supposed to be here 9 -26 ,even though i may not install them for a minute that can of shipping time is annoying :DontGetIt:

Same day as you on the 12th. I was surprised I got them today, they were not supposed to be here until next week. They came out of Sparks Nevada.:cowboy:

finally got them today, yep they are nice. i think with the new wheels i'm putting on i will need sunglasses to look at it :hooray:
 
I just picked up a set of the emblems from PW Distribution. I inquired with them to make sure they still had them and I received a response back from Dave over at PW - they only have about 7 sets left - so if you are on the fence about getting them, this may be your last chance.
 
Dave makes quality products. I have the emblems as well as the pwr window switches,hope too try the switches before long. Good looking switches though.
