TTA Notchback

I'm still wondering what car that was used at INDY with the notchback. 89 TTA's never were notchbacks but that car had one. What happened to it? UMMM Jan?
 
Yep we asked Scott about this and the other TTAs in the press kit and some or all of them were dressed up GTA's as the photos were taken much earlier in 88 and no TTAs were avalible ... this was all done by GM so could been any white GTA's really.

And no Notchback TTA's were ever done by PAS.
 
Notchbacks where just another factory order not a dealer installed option ... plan was to do them in 1989 as well however that was canceled way before the first TTA's where built as per the Pontiac dealer notice below.

I'm sure you could order the parts over the counter and get the dealer to paint and install it for you but defenitly not a dealer option as far as I'm aware.

I don't think this is right, if my memory serves me correctly there may have been at least 1 TTA Notchback owned by Pontiac.
I've seen an 89 TTA Notchback that was driven by Reggie Harris who was the public relations manager at the time for Pontiac (if I recall correctly) .
This was 1992 when I saw the car, maybe Pontiac had the car converted in house, but none the less, it was still way after the 1988 dealer notice cancelling the availability of the Notchback option.
My friend got to drive the car when we were in Detroit and I'm sure he has photo's of it.

It is correct.

No factory built notchbacks were ever made in 1989 ... and no TTA notchbacks left the factory.

However anyone could have done anything once they took delivery of their TTA ... swapping out the hatch ... one owner did not like the color of the interior so the dealer swapped it all out for a grey lether GTA interior but none left the factory that way.

So anything is possible and Pontiac might well have done this at some point however the point made is that no notchback TTAs where ever built by the factory and none could have been ordered as the notchback option (RPO code) were discontinued in 1988 way before the first TTAs were built in Dec 1988.

In fact some of the promotional phots (and I suspect the one of the TTA notchback) from Indy were taken using dressed up GTA's as no TTAs were avalible that early in 1988 for any photo PR shoots.

If you or your friend do have more info and or photos of the TTA notchback we would all love to learn more about it.

Anything that a Dealership put onto a car, was also known as a dealership option.
They would do pretty much anything for a buck.
They have been known to lose paperwork for Pace Car owners, and send the decal kits/owner kits to the Parts Department, to sell for retail.
I know, I bout three sets of second gen Pace Car decals this way.
So, if a dealership had a notchback sitting in their Parts Department, for money, they would install it.
Only the owner, and the dealership would have any paperwork on it.
And dealerships don't look back for this stuff.
I know, I have tried, for other things/info.
You ought to know, seeing a few of my dealership optioned Trans Ams. ;)
You ought to take a photo of your library, I'd love to see it.
And compare it to my little library. ;)

Damn, i should have thought of this before :idea5: i can have my TTA painted black at the dealer and since the DEALER did the work it would be a real black TTA! :teehee:

You still got Pontiac dealers in your neck of the wood, huh?:poke:
 
Although you could get the dealerships to do stuff,
Most big Pontiac shows, and collectors, don't allow them in factory classes. ;(
