TTA Owner :).....at last

Well after 20+ years of dreaming and many months of serious researching and looking, the childhood dream has been realized. I am a Trans Am owner. I got #82 from TC Turbo aka Tony on here who has been an awesome guy to deal with throughout this entire process.

Car was actually brought down on sunday and I immediately spent the rest of the day claybarring it. On monday I went through a real runaround trying to get it taggged because in PA they need a Vin tracing, well to my knowledge the only place its stamped is on the windshield, which is not accessable. I had to have a cop come out and file some form and then it took about a half tank of gas running all over from the title transfer place, dealers, and Penndot. They don't make it very easy to get anything from a private seller thats for sure.

Anyways when all that was done I had to hustle it over to the insurance company in a few min to make my appointment with almost no gas in a car I've never driven before. After that the fun could finally begin, took a few friends out for a spin. I've really fallen in love with this car. Its so easy to drive (I've never owned an automatic), the thing practically drives itself I barely have to use the gas pedal. It takes bumps fairly soft but the steering is quick and precise, its quite nimble for the size of it. The brakes require a bit more pedal pressure than I'm used to.

Its somewhat disappointing I can only go up to 5psi or so without knock, but I just need a chip and injectors and thats easily solved. This car is everything I've dreamed it would be. It needs a few odds and ends but I look forward to making this thing as awesome as it can be.

Pics to come :burnrubber:

Awesome congrats and good luck with it! Remember she is 20 years old. Treat her right and nice! :) I ran into that crap with the vin tracing. I took the title into a tag place and they told me to take a piece of paper and trace it with a pencil. I asked the woman if she was smoking crack. I went to another tag place (there is 50 million of them around me) and they put all the paper work thru no questions asked. Sometimes you have to use the smaller places that don't really care. The bigger tag places get anal for some reason.

I had to go 26 miles to one, then 26 back home to get the cop to do the paperwork, then back down 26, then a forever drive back home 26.

Damn rain can't do anything, hopefully it stops for a few hours to bring it out tommorow and get some pics, I've been antsy all day to drive it or at least clean it.

You guys must have some different guidelines to go by in the SE part of PA?

I've bought one vehicle a year from out of state, for the last three years, and I'll had to do was produce a bill of sale(to pay 6% tax) a signed title from the previous state( or thier proof of title) and I walk out of the notary with tags in hand.

Never had to show proof of V.I.N., or show the cars or truck for that matter?

What chip/injectors are currently in the car? Why the knock at 5 psi? What mods (if any) does the car have?
Congrats and welcome to TTA ownership, enjoy it.

Joe

Congrats on the purchase, I wish you the best as an owner and hope you enjoy the car for all that it is :)

Stock chip, stock injectors, 3" DP, stainless mass air pipe with K&N, Walbro 340 with hot wire, stock FPR, new plugs, wires, new GM module and coil, 206 cam, ported heads with 100 lb springs, VC breathers, I think that's it.

Matt is a great guy, I hope you and #82 have a great time together!

I know every state is different, but here in Ohio it qualifies as a 'collector car', so no inspections..emissions checks, etc, just renew the tag every year. That's good for me because this thing doesn't pass our emissions check here. But it's something to consider looking into.

I just dropped it off for inspection, 82 freakin dollars, pending it passes without any problems. Its been a few drops here and there, I really hope the skies don't open up in the next few hours.

Congrats on the car!!! I had the same problem with the brakes on mine... WAY too much pedal to stop the car. And you could forget about fast stops. Turned out that the vacuum check valve on the brake booster went bad. You may want to check that. As Jim said, it's been 20 years after all.

Sorry, don't have a pic readily available as #689 is going to a car show today. :-D

The check valve is a little round plastic valve near the top of the brake booster (big black disc behind the brake fluid reservoir).

Maybe an easier way to find it... If you look at the top of the engine, where all the vacuum hoses come off the vacuum manifold, you will see that all the vacuum hoses come off the passenger side except one. The one hose that comes off of the drivers side of the vacuum block goes directly to the brake booster check valve.

Happy to help!
Lance

I think it's as simple as taking it off and blowing into it from both ends Matt. It should flow in the direction vacuum travels into the booster but not the other way. It's just a one way check valve as far as I remember. They do fail but it's uncommon.
