TTA RAdio Options?

I finally took my newly acquired TTA out for drive other than around the block (these cars ar a BLAST to drive). The radio was making a constant ticking sound and then stopped after 5 mins, offered up a faint whiff of electronic burning, and then dead. I was thinking about replacing with a another GM radio (like a Monsoon CD - i know the SW controls won't work) because finding a stock replacement will be like searching for Hoffa's body. Anybody use another GM CD player with luck and if yes which one? Ot have leads on repairing or replacing the stock unit. I'd like to keep it original "looking" (meaning not aftermarket). Thanks!
 
GM originals (cassette) are not hard to find. GM CD radios from that era are. They usually have cd errors from not being cleaned. Very expensive. Aftermarket that fit perfectly without anything was a Pioneer din and a half. They only make double din now. Doesn't fit.
 
This is what i have I also have earlier GM disc player from 86 TA...they had them. I also have pioneer. I wouldn't sell any of them as they are very hard to get.

Here's my pioneer. Does not work with steering controls though...

I assume the easy to find cassette players are the ones that dont' work with the SW controls.....

I'm intertested in the origial TTA radio that does work OR a GM looking CD. The monsoon seems to fit the bill but wondered what other recommend. thanks.
 
Perhaps if you change your mind about how stock you would like it to look, there is always the option of putting in a double DIN. There is a company that makes pretty nice faceplates for double DINs, and it doesn't take a whole lot of modification to make it work. You have to cut a bit, but you don't cut anywhere visible or structural (just some excess material that probably should have been trimmed at the factory).

It wouldn't look stock for 1989, but the ones I've seen look like they could have been stock if it had been a factory option back then.

Plus, you can get stuff for the newer model stereos that will let you use the steering wheel controls.

I solved my radio issue. I found another TTA with a working radio and I'm buying it. I'm waiting for a ride now so I can pick up #368. So #308 and #368 will share the same garage in about 4 hours....I'm a little excited.

Congrat's, Where did #368 come from ? btw did you bling 308's eng. ? i got the pic's but couldn't tell...:headbang:
 
No..308 is as you left it. That bling was from 368. Jim Dunn got me in touch with a guy in NJ. 368 has 39k on it....
