TTA Running Rich, Injectors?

I recently picked up a 44k mile TTA. It is running rich, and my mechanic seems to think that the injectors are the culprit, as he thinks that someone swapped them out at some point.

Any tips?

I should note that the exhaust manifold has a leak, and I was hoping to find some headers.

Thank you in advance.

Danny

Why do you think it's rich? do you have a scantool? it could be inj. or wrong chip for them.
Take the manifold off and have it welded and check with a straight edge, no gasket needed.

I think it could be a chip issue. Is there a particular source for buying a proper chip that you would recommend? Also, can Buick parts for the GN be used for TTAs?

Thank you Robert.

Danny

Go to Turbo tweak for the chip but he will need to know what size inj. you have ( ie 42, 50's, 60's, stock ) and some other info.
As far as GN parts go, it depends on what it is, a lot of parts will crossover but not everything.

You didn't say if you have a scanmaster or not but that would be the FIRST thing i would buy, Turbotweak has them also.

get a turbo tweek chip let him know what you have regarding any performance up grades or if it's all stock.then based on your information he will make you the chip, his chips improve idle and performance.Yes some off the parts of the GN will fit our cars, heads are different, headers, down pipe, pistons, those are some of the things that are different from our cars.Congrat's on the new purchase, also you should get a scan master to monitor your engine ,that should be the first thing on your list.

Hmm, I'd take it to a different mechanic if he knows you have an exhaust leak, that's your main culprit right there for it running rich. If the leak has been there long, then the O2 is probably toast too.
Get a scan tool, scanmaster is the easiest, watch the O2 counts, if they are not changing constantly, or watch the O2 cross-counts, they should cycle from 0-255 in less than 90 seconds, if not, then its new O2 time.
But you have to fix the manifold leak first, assuming it is before the O2 sensor.
Other things to check would be fuel pressure, should be around 42psi with the vac line off of the regulator, and around 35 with the vac line hooked up...if the pressure does not drop when connecting the vac line..then thats another culprit for running rich. If the chip is a stock chip, then it should not be idling rich at least. Stock chip is good enough to sell the car, wouldn't go full boost with it though as the timing is wayy too steep for todays gas, it was programmed for gas of yesteryear :)

If you can take some pics of the injectors and post up, we can tell you if the are the factory ones, or go look at some close of pics of some of the low mile cars that have been on ebay / CL.

No Headers for the TTA, only one option and those are stock. Sometimes the pipe and flange weld cracks. Take them off inspect/weld if needed. No gasket is required but I am a fan of RTV, run a bead around each. Do that first see if it cures the problem. If you think its running rich it could be just the smell of exhaust from the leak.... OR your chip and injectors dont match. as everything above is great advice!
