turbolink question, and/or should I use directscan?

trying to decide to buy turbolink or directscan. I didn't even know there was a direct scan. I have never used them.


I am mainly wondering about the frame rate of the turbolink to aldl connection. I know it updates every 1.5 seconds, but does it include all the data inside the 1.5 second interval, or is it just an instantaneous snapshot every 1.5 seconds, leaving out the rest of the data. A 13.5 second run would have 9 updates, so would the whole run be accounted for? Or just 9 instances within that run? Certainly a lot can happen in 1.5 seconds, that you would want to know about.

I am trying to find that out.

ALso, where does the directscan plug in? On their website it says there is a special port to plug it into. I was unaware of other ports besides aldl.
 
Back when dinosaurs roamed the land the direct scan and turbolink filled the market.

The new logger updates 25 times per second. Mine runs at 18 FPS and that is VERY fast.

It connects to the bottom of the ECM.
 
Thanks for the advice, BUT...The modern scan tools that you suggest are 300% more expensive than the ones I mentioned. I am not racing or modifying. Just want to get old car running right. This car sat around 22 years with almost no use. Now trying to decide which scan tool to use.

I am still concerned about my original question. If someone could help me, I could buy one and start getting the car right.

The convert deserves to run right. It is especially frustrating because I have owned tta's that run right, and haven't driven one in 10 years. There was not too much of a yearning. I got used to driving slow cars. But... getting behind the wheel after a decade, and expecting satisfaction, only to be slighted, is worse than just going without a tta altogether.

I really don't have money to burn on a tool that is 300% more expensive.

If someone wants to lend me a scan tool (old or new), that would be great, as I would not have to buy anything. It would be a nice charity project for the convertible. I am not putting a variable fuel regulator or a variable boost control, so once it is running right, I will be done with the scan tool. I could pay a deposit so you would not worry about it. Autozone loans tools on deposit, but I don't know if they loan obd1 scan tools.
 
You could find a OTC 2000 or the 4000 model on ebay cheap. Prolly around 30-50 dollars. Easy to use. You can set your TPS, IAC, CTS........ and adjust parameter's within your TT chip.

However, it's not very pleasant to drive around holding the OTC and watch the road at WOT. But the older OTC may be a cheap pos by todays standards, none the less, it's a scantool.

Jason is right though. I'd take his advice over mine.

I would check that website again...it says it hasn't been updated since July of 1999...sooooo.

And it requires a DOS 3.3 operating system with a 386 processor....seriously...you can do better than that.
