Two days worth of work, all prep work will be done tomorrow, then in 3 weeks off to the shop for paint. Over all car is in great condition, T-Top area is good rails are in excellent condition, and only surface rust, no bondo work! Which is nice, and I am painting the factory white made up my mind. Good job Marcel, thats how you paint a car.... i am so close to changing the color on #818 but i would have to take it apart (like Fast400) , too old for that chit and too hardheaded to half-ass it..... so i will wait on some free good help :teehee:
 
Thanks guys, doing it once and doing it right. If I was closer Robert, I'd help you out, it is alot of work and alot faster with 3 people for sure.

Thank you, tta299, Thank GOD I had the time, and only paid for material at cost. Brother and my friend are paint/body guys, I got lucky.:cheers:

No worries here, only prep work outside. Paint and clear in booth. Got all the good stuff. But yes if it was raining and such, yes we couldn't have got anything doné.
 
Wow, lots of work, but if you want a great paint job with no lines, painting panels separately is the only way to go. Just got to be carefull on the reassembly. My 69 Chevelle SS was done this way & the result was excellent, especially around the doors, hood & trunk. It's a lot of extra effort, but imo worth it.
Are you going to paint the undercarriage as well ?

Yes Snowman, was a ton of work but will be worth it, now putting it back together will take 2x as long. Everything will go on slow and very carefully. Plus now I need new emblems, weather stripping, interior everything, so will cost a pretty penny.
 
I need to do this to a few of my other Trans Ams,
But I'm not sure I could do that myself, or with my friend's help.
Something would disappear.

Everything is easy, but the doors hood, and hatch your going to need help with 2 people is ok, but 3 works alot better, can't wait to see the results!

You are doing it the right way for sure, lots of work though. Generally a car apart will take up a two or three bay garage quite easily. It's been a long time since I've ripped one apart & had a car painted, last one was my 71 Chevelle SS454. Results from doing it this way were excellent though. It's never a true project though unless you do loose or damage something though. Reassembly is definitely better with 3 people on doors, hood & hatch.
 
Just be fore warned that everything you put back on the car will be questioned. New screws, bolts, marker lenses, trim clips, emblems, windshield, etc. Just went thru a repaint with the MSE and we did new seals, etc, but every nut, bolt, etc was scrutinized before re assembly. We got carried away with it, but in the end it turned out excellent.

Yes we are blasting every bolt and painting, then touch up when put on. The assembly will take 2X as long as taking it apart for sure. But I am very picky and replacing everything that needs replacing. I tried saving the T-Top weather stripping it looked new, but it ripped in places, so all new weather stripping, side molding, emblems, fiberglass spoiler, ( the original spoiler is still good, but hate to paint it then it splits open), carpet, and T-Top top.

But before I put on fenders and nose, going to work on the engine, I got stuff :D, coming in this weekend. But the wait is killing me on seeing the new paint on the car. Single stage 2 coats of clear.
 
sweet cant wait to see results ... I think jan is the only one ive seen go to the extream on these cars .... i call 1397 my beatear it needs paint but has excellent interior

This car had nothing excellent on it they beat the hell out of it. I'm going to send out an oil sample soon to BlackStone, and pray it reads out fine. Engine was rebuilt so hope its right.
But got to replace the intake gasket, so guess we'll see.
 
Man, I sure don't get on here often enough. I could have saved you all kinds of time by selling you my festival car that has 2 year old paint on it. I don't think I want to sell it now but a couple months ago I was toying with the idea. It's #149 and was WAY rougher than the one you got. Looked like it was at the end of a driving range for a day. It's got a butt-load of miles but runs perfectly. Antenna doesn't work, tho. :) Enjoy your rebuild! It's gratifying driving your hard work. Can you tell what car the wheel in the reflection is on?

Thanks man, and yes can't wait to drive her already, and not sure about the wheel in the reflection.
