VIN sticker repro

Anyone ever try to reproduce your VIN stickers in on the doors, hood, and fenders? Reason I ask, is I'm going to have the hardtop painted, but don't want to loose the vin sticker....and no I don't want to tape the vin sticker off....that's always visible after the repaint.
So I figured if I could accurately reproduce the sticker, I'll be ok.

Not cheap and I have not used them but apparently the only legal way getting replacements done ...

did you ever think of trying to remove them with a heat gun (on low) or a hair dryer and try to save and reinstall them????

The original GM stickers are what's called tamper proof and if removed (with or without heat) the glue leaves a pattern on the door but might be worth a try on one of them.

Oh Bob all the VIN stickers (9 or so of them) also have a serial number on each that is different (not sure how that one worked but if you miss one it's hard to work out what the serial number should be).

I noticed the different identifier on each label. It seems as though it goes around the car alphabetically...maybe by what piece was put on when?

Could be, I tried to work it out in the past and yes they seem to be alphabetical but unfortunatly not on every car ... anyway I thought I would let you know just so you consider that if you order new ones.
