Waxes

I get confused with all the car care products like polishes, waxes and cleaners they all claim to be the best. A lot of multi step systems. So far I like Meguiars Cleaner + Wax. They have a 3 part system but this works well. Also use Spray on detailer, Their are alot of brands and they all seem to be the same. I use it on every wash.

Questions:
Anyone know the secret of the yellowing effect and how to get rid of it?

Anyone us That Clay bar stuff?

Its the secret to get anything out of the paint, followed by a light buff!
It gets rid of Yellowing,Rust Dots from exhaust, overspray, sap, etc!
The brand Clay I use is Blue Coral is a blue bar.

Do you buff by hand or use an orbital buffer?

I don't know how to use one and would only feel comfortable doing it by hand.

I've had pretty good results with Zaino waxes and the original Clay-Magic clay bar. Don't use the lube that comes with the Clay. You'll want to use a mix of Zaino wash and water. It's far superior. Check out their site at www.zaino.com.

Would anyone mind explaining to me how to wax
a vehicle properly? My TTA never came out when I waxed it! Now I just wash it with Eagle one! Looks good after I dry it off and it stays clean for a long time!

Just got some meguiars quik clay and tried it on a small portion of my corvette (black) looks great. How many times can I use the clay bar. How many cars will it do. Can I use other spray detail products if I run out of the stuff provided?

ChrisKober,
Do you claybar the entire paint finish on your car to remove the yellowing? What light polishing compound do you use after the clay bay? What wax do you use after the polish?

Thanks,
Dave

Chris is right, the clay bars are phenomenal.
I manage a detail shop for a pontiac dealer, this stuff really comes in handy for the used cars.

Ryan,
I have been working on a couple of Yellowing spots myself. My car has only 4800 mi on it and has been inside all of it's life. The yellowing is really frustrating for me. A friend of mine who works at an automotive paint store said it is a problem with the clear paint used in 1989.

I tried the clay bar which helped a little (made the finish feel really smooth!).

I am now trying a little color sanding with 2000 grit paper (must be very wet). I then polish out the sandpaper scratches with 3M Ultra Polishing compound and then finish it up with Meguiars #9. This has knocked down the yellow a little bit more.

Other than repainting (which I am trying to avoid), their is not much you can do.

Dave

Hi Dave,

You've done about all you can without repainting. I bet it still looks good though. OK, I really need a TTA. Now I've really got the itch.

Yes the Zaino's is great I used it on my 02 TA WS6. It even made the black look good. Also I have a friend who recomended 3M white polish. That is all he used on his white 89 GTA. And for orbital polishers. If you go to Grouts Garage (may be spelled wrong). But he has the top of the line everything for cars. Just rember the best is never the cheap.

I also use Clay Magic clay bars. I tried a couple other brand clay bars, but they didn't work as good. The only paint clay bars remove is over spray. The only thing that I didn't like was the paint nicks were easier to see when I was done because the clay pulled the dirt out of the nick.

IS the yellowing all over the car? I have a problem on one door? Was wondering if it was a repaited door?
