Man,
Don't try this at home!
Yesterday, was our (Lisa and me) 14th anniversary being together.
We decided to go out to lunch, which is kinda rare, but she is unemployed right now, so we can.
Being that yesterday was to be 70% rain, we decide to go for an early lunch.
No big deal, just about a mile or two drive to get there.
Driving her car, which is an everyday driver, we go thru an intersection on a green light.
Well, someone else decided to go across at the same time!
Too bad his light was red!
He decided to use our car as his brake, I guess.
Lucky for us, he admitted to us, and the two Police Officers who showed up within minutes, that he ran the red.
Too bad for us, as her car got damaged pretty bad.
Now, as for her car, it is a red 1991 Firebird with the Sport Appearance package, that I have been adding on some goodies.
Like a 1987 Formula hood, with the off set hood budge.
A 1991 Formula rear hatch with the wrap around rear Trans Am type spoiler.
1984 front 15th Anniversary Trans Am Recaro seats.
And the last thing, my spare set of 16 inch GTA gold wheels, with brand new two week old on the wheels, Goodyear 245 GSCs.
Her car got hit right behind the driver's door, which got smashed in pretty bad.
We want to save the car, and alot of parts are no longer available.
Lucky for me, I have alot of parts, so we may just be able to save her.
As for the crash, I saw the other car last minute, and leaned into the center of the car, over the center console.
Didn't help much, as the impact threw me against the door and door glass.
I didn't black out or anything, and didn't go to any doctor.
I feel fine, but today, I am sore.
I'm not one to sue people, and will not do so.
Like I said, we just want the car fixed, not totalled.
It may be close, and if so, we will buy the car back.
If she was working, she may have tried to collect, and get another Bird or Trans Am. But, she's not, and wants her car.
We should find out within a week or so.
The good thing is, that we can still drive the car.
Seems to be OK in that sense at least.
Here's a few pictures:

I'll keep you updated on this (only to those who care:)).
By the way, she is fine, just cried when and after we got hit.
This is her second car, and her fist car got hit and totalled too.

That sucks, Sorry to hear that. Hope you can get it back to the way it was soon.

Sorry to hear and see that George. That looks like it very well could be fixed. Check the rear wheel and see if it still true tho.

damn George. Happy Anniversary and man that sucks to spend it that way! I was out to a show in the TTA today and I'm always looking for that bastard that runs a red light. It's impossible to avoid that bastard but you try not to think about them. Hopefully the insurance covers it and you can get her back. I know your not the "sue" kinda guy but I would at least fight for a nice full paint job! good luck with it and I hope it works out!

That really sucks George, good to see everyone was alright though. Doesn't look like it should be too bad and you wouldn't think it would be totaled unless the subframe is bent. Unfortunatly though those cars have such a low blue book that even the smallest accident they end up just totaling it.

Damn man that blows. Hope you get it all back together. Did the hit knock the center cap off or were you missing one anyway?

Too bad we are so far apart there George.... I am almost possitive I have all the parts to fix that one right here..... even a replacement quarter panel. All things concerned though it doesnt look to bad. It will all come down to how much damage there is verses what the car is worth. The word " Totaled " is just a play on words on which is more cost effective for the affected insurance company. It has absolutely nothing to do with a car being repairable or not. That car is perfectly repairable. Well good luck on this one and keep us posted on how it comes out......

The most important part is that you guys are ok.... the rest is just water under the bridge.

Thanks all!

10point,
The car seems OK, as it drives pretty straight, with no "pulling" to either side. Still though, the body shop said they would check on a frame rack.

Jim,
It sure would be nice for a total paint job. The top and front of the car has alot of clear coat flaking off already. I doubt they will go for that.

Jared,
You are so right!

Quiky One,
The center cap flew off in the accident, with every single tab broke!
I've seen a few tabs broke off, but not every one!
I did pick it up to show the insurance guy though.

Dave,
Again, thanks for the concern.
Funny how things go in slow motion.
When I saw the car coming (about 5 feet away), I leaned into Lisa, to help cushion her from the impact. And remember looking and seeing the green light again. However, the hit sent me back into the door and door glass! My head hurts abit, but Lisa has hit me much harder before.;)
Who knows, I may have more sense now. Then again, knowing me, probably not.;)

Joe,
I just may contact you!
I have tons of stuff for my 20th, like about 3-4 of the lower aero package pieces, but none for the '91-'92 style.
I did go right out to check the local yards, and the one car that use to be there, is long gone.
I may get a price for that and the replacement panel.
I know the local body shop, but still, I wonder if I could have the car repaired in another state.
Lisa would like to know about the rental car though, you know, the white one (that should be done pretty soon! ;)

Thanks guys,

:beach:

George,

Glad to hear you and Lisa are both OK. As a famous comedian/actor said recently after crashing a $1.5mil Ferrari Enzo, "They can make another car, but they can't make another (insert name here)." I guess no one told him they don't make Enzos anymore but you get the point.

Maybe this was a sign that you need to make Lisa an honest woman and celebrate a different anniversary!  But all kidding aside, glad to hear you're both OK.

Take care and drive safely,

Glad you and Lisa are ok, my best to Lisa (and you). Hope things works out well, that is a nice car as I've been in it more than once. People don't care and drive like crazy but important thing is you are both ok.

Oh and happy anniversary !

Thanks Ron and Jan!
I was planning on a Los Angeles trip this weekend (wanted to see Texas Loosey's again, oops, I mean see Jan again:)).
But with the adjuster coming out, had to stay home here in Arizona.
We want to make sure the car gets fixed.
Insurance said no problem with the car, if it's totalled. Just would have a salvage title.
We hope it doesn't come to that.

Ahh Texas Loosey's - A L.A. area Highlight! :jaw:

Jim,
I saw that already.
He wants local pickup only.
I called the body shop, and they said about an extra grand for the replacement vs. pulling and fixing that side of the car.
Today, the adjuster came out, looked at the car, took some pictures, and said it doesn't look good. He'll let us know tomorrow.
Great, Lisa loses her job, and they don't even fix the car (The guy didn't seem to think that they would).
Of coarse, they won't pay for a replacement '91 Firebird.
Said she would have to find something.
She can't even pay for a lawyer.
We will have to see what our options are.
He also said that even with new tires and wheels, a Trans Am hood and decklid, and Recaro seats, it would be the same value.
Fine, I'll just pull all those parts off,put on the regular parts, and let it go (watching Lisa cry the whole time).
Seems I may just have to go to the doctor anyway. My neck seems to be starting to hurt.
Damn Gieco.
I see that lizard, I'm stepping on it!

Just from working with insurance company's over the years (use to drive a tow truck and pick up allot of their totaled out wrecks) from that damage I figure they would total it with the value of those cars. Shame but they could care less about sentimental value! Your best bet at this point would be to buy the car back cheap if they total it and part the car out. Put the money into a shoe box and watch for a replacement on ebay. Contact a lawyer already! It's a sue sue world George. If you don't sue someone will sue you. It's a shame but that's what it's come down to any more. I had a little old lady run a stop sign and t bone me. She told the cops it was her fault and then all of a sudden 2 days later he son calls me and says it was my fault! It was a good thing I had a lawyer or I would have been screwed. I've been in a good number of accidents. I just found out I have arthritis in my neck and lower back from these accidents I had many years ago. The human body was not meant for those types of jolts!

Jan,
Won't be making it out this week at all, with this crap going on.
The adjuster came out yesterday, and said it was probably totalled.
Even with over a grand in extra parts on the car, he said it didn't matter at all, with bringing up the price of the car. He said they don't include wheels.
I will pull all the extras off the car, as I kept all the other parts.
I just have to remember things like the K&N air filter and wonderbar!
No way they are getting those Recaros!
Or the gold GTA wheels with brand new GSCs!
Take some pictures of my girls!;)

Jim,
You may just be right!
We may go see a lawyer!
And I may go see a doctor now!
All we want is the car in the shape it was in before the wreck.
Kinda hard for Lisa to buy a car, when she is un-employed right now.
It was her only running car.

Yea I figured they would total it. These insurance companys don't really care anymore. Esp. if it's a daily driver. The only way to go is get collector insurance but then you wind up not being able to drive it all the time but at least you'll get paid. I would really try and buy it back off them George. Part the car out. Usually in the end you'll make out better that way with an older car. I did that to a few of mine in the past. It's messy and a pain in the rear but you'll wind up better in the end. If your going to let them take it. I would go to the junk yard and get 4 crap rims and tires and put them on there and pull off most of your stuff. The next step is an auction or they will just crush it for metal value. I've been down this road many times and you have my number so just give me a call if you want. That's if you can get ahold of me! :chat:
