What tires should I get??

Hey Guys,

My car has been sitting in the air on a lift for the past 3-4 years.. Since I will be bringing it to the reunion, it's time to start thinking about what tires I should have put on.

Currently the fronts are original and the rears are Goodyear GSC's.

What are some of you guys running and what's the size with no rubbing?

For a street tire, I am using the BF goodrich g force sport they seem to be working good. When stopped and turning sharply they do rub a little. That is the only time I have head them rub. Using the stock size for the car.

I was just surfing for tires today(at work of course), and saw the Firestone Indy 500 tires. They got some very good reviews, rather inexpenesive, and the name was pretty good too!
 
I have those Indy 500 tires on the 82 MSE T/A is bought in Nov. I didnt drive the car too much before winter set in, but they seem like pretty nice tires. I'm running Kumho Ecsta's on the TTA.
 
When I replaced mine I bought the BFG G-foce KDW, which I don't think they make anymore. I think they were replaced with the G-Force Sport. I had the front wheels on the rear and vice versa, no rubbing. Not my shortest 60' times but good, good on the street (even if caught in rain), and very good lap after lap on a road course. Just my $.02.

I'd say check Tire Rack's web site and compare features & pricing. And if you call them most of the sales people are gearheads and can give you some advice if you're torn between a few choices. Discount Tire should (or at least used to) match Tire Rack's pricing. Plus with Discount it's one stop shopping and you get a warranty nationwide. I bought my last 4 sets of tires, including the BFGs for the TTA, from Discount.
 
Sumitomo makes a tire that looks almost identical to the old BFG gforce TA KDW. that is what I am going to buy.

I wish BFG still made the KDW. I'd even buy used at this point.
 
I went with the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 tires in the spring of 2010. They are rocking tires, look great, wear well and drive well. I have put about 1,500 miles on them with a couple of good road trips over the summer. Love them.... And as 1970gsx mentioned, they are very reasonably priced. I went with stock size and no rubbing at all. The Indy wing on the sidewall is cool too. Wish it was bigger. Good luck.
 
I found a picture of the Indy tires I have on the MSE. Heres what they look like. 89tta636 is right-the Indy wing looks cool.
 
I went with the Firestone Wide Ovals, they look and ride good. I got them from Tires Plus for about $520 mounted and balanced all 4 tires. I thought that was easier than having them shipped from Tire Rack, then having to take them somewhere etc etc. The tires seem to make a lot less road noise then the old Goodyears. Crusing at 80-85 mph on our Florida Roads, hard to believe this car is 22years old.
