What's your opinion of removing...

What's everyones opinion on removing the door decals and the door trim? My car has 26k miles on it and I've always thought the TTAs looked better without the door decals but I always said I wouldn't take mine off since they were already on there and the paint would probably be different. Well I was taking off my emblems to replace them with some new ones and I cleaned up the paint underneath and it pretty much matches perfectly. Well that's when I started thinking about maybe taking off the door decals and the trim. My brother has a 98 TA and we took his door trim and decals off and it makes the lines of the car look so much cleaner. I think with a 3rd gen that it would make the lines even more smooth.

My opinion,
Is, that it's totally up to you!
Just remember though, those door decals cost a pretty penny to replace!
I have been toying with the idea of putting a set of door decals onto a magnet. Someone years ago did up some sets, but I passed. Now I wish I had gone for it!
I had a 1980 Indy Turbo Trans Am Pace Car without the door decals, a 1981 NASCAR Turbo Trans Am Pace Car with the door decals, and my 20th TTA without.
I do want to put back on a windshield decal though.
Just wish I had one that wasn't in an Owner's Kit.;)

I definately like them without the door decals but I will always have the trim for door guards. I do not leave my car in parking lots often but it is nice to have. I rubbed my Trans Am against my garage door opening and they trim saved the paint...

I repainted myTTA,but, here's what it will look like w/o
decals & side molding.

That's exactly how I want to do my car, but with stock wheels. I want to keep the windshield banner and all the emblems, nothing else. I was thinking about getting some of he mini door decals too and putting in them door handles like you did also. Looks like great minds think alike :hooray:

George, if you want I'll split that kit on the Stencils and Stripes website with you and you can have the windshield banner and I'll take the door decals. That way I have some to put on the car if I need to.

My car never had them installed. I was going to put them on many times but I figured if 4 other owners didn't put them on (while passing around this owners kit that came with the car) maybe I shouldn't! :teehee: I like them both ways I guess I'll just have to buy another TTA someday with the decals on it so I can have the best of both worlds! :WOOT: I like them with and without. I have 4 sets of OEM decals that I collected over the years so who knows they might wind up on my doors at some point.

George I did buy those magnet door decals but the white they used is to "white" and they just don't look right on the car. PLus you have the black edge of the magnet material showing around the edges. It gets the point across but for my taste I didn't like them much. Have a look below and let me know what you guys think... Maybe if they were shot the color of the car first it would work but they just didn't look right for me to use them. I think I had them on the car one time now they live on the steel door going into the garage!

If you bought it, you should do what you like with it. They look great either way, even to us purist.

Yeah see I've always had the purist mindset, like I did a few mods but I kept all the stock parts so if I wanted to I could turn it back to stock in an evenings worth of work. I could do the same with the decals and door trim (i'd have to get replacement decals though). I always said I'd never touch the exterior, but I've also always thought it'd look better without that stuff. I'm still undecided but I guess I'll figure it out in the next week or so what I'm going to do.

I definitely don't like that magnetic version ... Leave those on your garage door!

Jared, I know it's a big decision. Only us car guys know that modifying an original is on the same scale as deciding to ask a girl to marry you :-)

Jared,
If you get the set, PM me how much it would be for the windshield decal.
I would be intrested.

Jim,
I don't think it is all that bad, but it would probably look better with the matching paint.
