Finally found my 4th "front" wheel 2 weeks ago...bought all four off eBay and had to get them individually, so the total process took the better part of 8 months to acquire them.
The reason...looking at the front wheel flush to the fender opening, and the rear 1.25 inches inboard just bugged the crap out of me...just looks wrong...all four will be as close to as flush to the wheel lip as possible when I'm done.
All four were in average condition when they arrived.
Sent them out to a local shop in Troy, Michigan (I've used them before on the 81 wheels...they do great work). My request was to have them sodium blasted, then powdercoated with code 55 Aztec Gold, machine back the bare aluminum lip, and then powdercoat clear over everything.
They replied that since code 55 was from a water based paint there was no powdercoat that would accurately match it. They offered to mix a special batch, but would not guarantee a perfect match and it would be expensive.
I chose to go with a modern day paint and powdercoat clear over the top.
Overall I'm pretty pleased...I can only find two defects...one is minor where it looks like some dirt got left behind before they got cleared...the other one is a 6 x 2mm area where it looks like the gold flaked off before it got cleared...but it's right up against the machined wheel lip, so I doubt anybody other than me would notice it.
Looking to try to get tires this week still!
