changed the oil on the tta today and ofcourse the easiest step should be removing the old oil filter correct?? well not today took 30 min and a chisel connected to an air gun!!! any idea how this could've happened my guess is no oil was put around the gasket on the previous change?? any ideas

other than that she got new brakes flushed all the fluids and the down pipe cover just happens to be sitting in my trunk hahattarider

time to wake the neighboors!!!!!

I have that problem everytime. Usually my oil cooler adapter comes off with it and I end up cutting the filter off.

It's from putting the filter on too tight. You don't even really need to put a wrench on the filter with these cars since it's so big and you can get a good amount of torque with your hands, but if you do like 1/16 of a turn is all you really need. Also, the o-rings will swell as they get oil soaked which just makes the problem that much worse.

I overtightened mine several times and I'd get pissed when it came time to take it off and I'd crush the filter with the filter wrench and then I'd have to stab a screw driver into it to get it off.

Jason - I've never had my oil cooler move when taking a filter off. I thought that the adapter through the center was reverse thread? I can't remember from when i took it off.

I've never had a problem with mine, just screw it on by hand until it's snug, then turn it a little bit more and you're good to go.

K&N solved that problem with a nut.

That nut might as well not even be on the filter. It's tapered how the hell are you supposed to get a wrench set on there square? It helps to put it on if you want to tighten it past hand tight real quick, but it's not worth a crap to take the filter off.

I always put mine on half turn with the wrench and they come right off once a year when I change it. Then again the oil is still usually clear because I don't put many miles on it. I soak that o ring with oil and put some in the filter every time. Maybe you guys need to work out more! Now watch.. next time I go to change it I'll need a sawzall!

You have to take the car out more than 2 times on an oil change before you get some good heat cycles into it.

Oh it comes out for exercise several times and year and it gets plenty of heat cycles thru it to and from the shows! :) Last show I went to with the TTA it was 102 degrees that day! Thank god I was under a tree with the car or I would have needed a skin graft after getting in the car with shorts from being in the sun that long! That show the AC got some exercise on the way home as well. Thank god it blows ice cold still. It was over an hour ride from me no less. I select my shows carefully with the TTA and make sure they are a nice run of rural, highway, and city roads for the car when it's out. Good thing living in the city I have all of that right near by. :) It comes out maybe 5 times a year. I try to bring it out 2 times in the spring, one big show in the summer, and 2 times in the fall. That keeps a TTA very happy. I typically go thru 2 tanks of fuel every year as well. Something that is very important with these cars! But since I've owned the car not once did the filter give me an issue getting it off.

I also change the oil after coming back from a show that was at least an hour away typically mid spring. So the filter is red hot when I take it off. I just toss a bunch of rags down there but I can see the hair on my arms melting from that header when I'm doing the filter. Maybe that helps getting them off with ease. The reason I turn it a half turn when putting it on is because evertime I change it there is always one drip sitting on the bottom of the filter. Drives me nuts leaky cars! :)

Never had that problem on any car ... always just tighten the filter (after cleaning the surfaces and a light coat of fresh oil, and oil in the filter, on the gasket) by hand until snugg ... that's it and done this one loads if different cars I had over the years both American made and European made and again never any issues removing the filter with normal removal tools.

That comes with it as well. I need to loctite the bolts, but to get the whole assembly off you have to remove a lot of parts.

I've only had problems with one filter, that was the first time I changed the oil in my 80 camaro. I thought i was going to have to call the fire company for the jaws of life. After trying to screwdriver trick which actually sliced the filter open in two, I got a punch into one of the holes onthe top plate of the filter, which was the only piece of the filter still left in the car by that time, and hammered away with a sledge for about 5 minutes. Longest oil change ever recorded in history I think. only took about a week of cursing kicking and pulling my hair out. Good thing I was only 15 and couldnt drive the car anyways.
