Would you drive a low mile TTA?

Hi,

At one time I had 2 TTA's, one that I drove some and one that just sat in the garage. About two years ago I sold the one that I drove some (sold with 17,000 miles) and now a debating if I should drive the other one. It currently has 79 miles on it. On one hand I think its just a car and it was built to be driven and then I think but it only has 79 miles.
What would you do? Drive it some on nice days and enjoy it or keep it stored. I like to hear from everyone from daily drivers to garage queens.

I dont think there is a correct answer for this one. I bought my cars to drive because thats how I personally feel these cars are best enjoyed, which is why I have no use for and never wanted a low mile car. All of mine have between 50-70K miles so no big deal to put a few hundred or thousand miles a year on them but at 79 miles I'd probrobly sell it, get one with some miles to enjoy :)
 
Drive it! It is a car. Statues and pictures are meant to be in museums. Cars are meant to be driven. TTA's are meant to be raced.
 
If you have a car no matter what it is and the miles are under 1000 I would never drive it. Anything under 1K is a museum piece at that point. If it made it this long with no miles might as well keep it that way. It's an investment piece. That's why I'm glad my TTA has the miles it has on it. I can drive it and not worry about putting miles on it. Might as well keep it low and have fun with the profit you make with it whenever you wish to sell. The key is to make sure it's stored properly. I ran into a TTA with 1200 miles on it. The car was pretty much a mess. The injectors were all gummed up and the fuel pump was burnt out trying to supply fuel to them. so you have to at least run them and keep them stored properly if your going to save one.

It is a car...if he wants to drive it drive it. Or sell it and buy two.

I guess the next pickup truck you buy you better store it. In 20 years it might be worth 50% more. Better not drive that Kia. Someday it might...

Do whatever you want with it, it's yours.
I drove alot the first two years I got my car, now, hardly at all.
I am at 39,700.0 miles.
I think that is way too many miles on the car.

Jason did anyone talk about keeping it for an investment in this thread?? Sometimes it's about enjoying the car as it is with low miles no matter the value of it. Your just use to having a car in your condition. That one I would drive the wheels off it and yet you almost NEVER drive yours. Why don't you tell us how many miles get put on your TTA in a year??? Much less then those of us who actually drive them! :boxed: So if it's a car why don't you drive YOUR OWN! :fuckkk:

I've put 580 on mine since March 1. Thats about 1200 a year or so.

Haha didn't mean to step on any toes but how is a lowmileage car in the garage fun? I think the thread starter is implying it is not fun anymore..
 
I'm going to agree with Jim on this one, anything with around 1k miles or less at this point I wouldn't drive it. It's not about the fact that it's a car, more along the lines of it being a true piece of history. Lots of cars get muscle cars get restored at some point in their lifetime, or repainted, but it's truely unique to see an all original low mileage car. 99.9% of restorations are over done, the paint quality is too nice, places are painted that were left bare or primer when the car was actually produced. These cars came with shitty paint and they're far from good build quality, and that's something that only a low mileage car will help show in years to come.

If you're looking for something to drive and you're worried about the money side of things, sell your TTA and buy 2 other TTAs. I know it's nice knowing the history of your car but you could buy a <10k mile TTA and a 40-70k mile TTA so then you would be back to the setup similar to what you had before and you could enjoy both of the cars.
 
Thats exactly what I did. I didn't want to drive my 10k beauty so I bought another one that I could enjoy the hell out of. When it's time to go to a show I'll have the wife take the higher mileage one(or the GN) and I will take the 10k one. Problem solved!!
 
Thanks for all your opinions, I'm currently thinking about driving it 100 miles a year. I think in the long run it my be better for the car. I wonder what problems may come up when I start driving it. I currently start it once a month and drive it down the dead end street (about 1/2 block), I was thinking about putting on some new tires and changing the fluids. Can we get OEM rims for our cars?

Why did you trailer your car to the ohio event? Its street legal. Not a full out race car!?!?!?

I don't drive my cars that much. The Festival car has about 5400 miles on it and it averages between 100-200 miles a year. The hardtop has about 4600 miles and it sees about 20-30 miles per year. These are not 1K mile cars, but they are certainly nice enough that they will never need a resto unless damaged. My goal for both cars is to enter them in the Points judging at National POCI (Pontiac Oakland CLub International) events in the Survivor class, once the hit 25 years old .

The wheels have been discontinued from GM for some time. Watch eBay, a nice set shows up every so often.

Because I dont think it is reliable enough to make it that far. The waterpump is 20 years old, the seals are 20 years old, and all the sensors are 20 years old. Not to mention it is uncomfortable more than an hour or so. Thats why. :kissass:

Negative, I would not drive it.

It's a piece of history and a rare one.

A TTA with 79 miles is a time capsule and can never be duplicated.

It's sat for so long now, as soon as you take it out on the road, I'd wager that problems will start developing.

Drive it...never.

Sell it...wait 8 years until it's an antique...it will appreciate better than any 401K you have.
 
My dad had a rare 60's Mercury Marauder new with a 427 and other cool factory stuff. He kept it perfect and it was never restored. he sold it in 78 for a few thousand dollars. He was recently contacted in regards to the car by it's 3rd owner, he bought it for $105,000!!!. Needless to say, dad wished he'd kept it. So keep your rare low mile stored and buy a new Pontiac Solstice and drop wild twin turbo Buick in it. Fast and reliable, z07 bad!
As for my 34k mile TTA... as soon as the temp drops to low 70's, it's gonna geta good old fashion flogging!! it's been too long, Wax, cruise, and a trip to the drag strip for some nice rubber and sticky compound highlights on the rear quarters. :cold: :thumbup:

I think a good number of GNX owners can cry that same story! I talked to a guy just the other week selling a low mile GN. He said he had a GNX he sold 6 years ago for 20K It had 5500 miles on it! He thought he was getting over on the guy getting the 20K! Same thing happen to him. A few owners later hunts him down to get any history on the car he ask's what he paid for it and the guy told him 75K! He said he was thinking about keeping it till they hit 20 years old. I said you should have listened to your self! :wall:
 
That car is worth atleast 40k now. I would let it build intrest in my garage. If you really have to drive a TTA buy one with miles. How many of our cars have less tha 100 miles ? If you drive it you make all the other under 100 mile TTA's prices go up. Only place i would drive it would be on a trailer to a new owner :WOOT:

A TTA with 102 miles just sold on eBay last week for $39,500.

Keep it in the garage, if you want to drive one go buy another one, I would cry if i scene something happen to a 79 mile one. That baby will be worth some high dollars one day.
