Best Oil /Filter combo?

anyone run GM EOS with oil ?

I do...two bottles per oil change since the new cam last summer.

But GM has gotten out of hand with the price, so I just ordered ZDDP from Kirbans to get me through the summer and fall oil changes.

:dirol:

well im about to attempt this, few things I need to know, where is the fuse for the ignition system? I have no manuals at all so I really dont know. Also anyone have a pic of where the drain plug is on the oil pan, I'm sure I can find it but knowing would help?

I went with Pennzoil 10w-30 non synthetic and I found some Lucas oil treatment stuff that has the zinc and phosphate and is specifically marked on the bottle for Flat Tappet cam cars. I'm also using a mobile 1 filter so all this should play nice together.......

Wish me luck

When you get under the car, its a big black deep pan, near the sub frame, you can't miss it. Your fuses are on the far left side (drivers side) under the dash.
Don't forget to change your drain plug gasket, cheap insurance. Good Luck!!!

well some good and bad I found in doing this

The bad, only 3.5 quarts came out, so I was down quite a bit. I did replace the drain plug gasket. I used just a tad over 5 quarts I believe. I made a slight mess pouring it in so it smoked for a few min as it burned off the header pipes, seemed to be shaking a bit more than usual but once it came up to temp it settled down. Seems to run fine, not noticing any leaking.

One thing though every time I get on it I smell the oil additive

I just spent all morning driving around to auto parts stores (30 miles away) looking for Rotella 15-40 oil in quart containers. All the stores I went to had 1 gallon (4 qts) containers but don't carry quarts. (AutoZone, WalMart, Shucks, Whites). I guess they want you to buy 2 gallon jugs to get your 5.5qt amount. Anyway, I stopped a my local Napa dealer in my town and he doesn't stock it but could order a 12 qt case of Rotella 15-40 for me. Anyway, that will give me 2 oil changes.

I've never seen them in quarts anywhere. I usually buy a few gallons to have around. Make sure you use a small bottle of the red stp oil treatment as well. Rotella T has cut back as well on the zinc!

Philly, I will do that, the only problem is I cannot find STP red bottle anywhere! Where do I find it (chain store)? Thanks

I think I got mine from Advanced Auto I don't think Pep Boys sells it. Might have been Auto Zone. I usually buy a dozen of them so I have them around. Good stuff to have! :)

Redline 10-30, Wix filter and red STP! Auto zone guy stated that no more red STP in NY, something to do with emissions, so it looks like I'll be looking into that Lucas oil treatment to. Hey Rodimus, where do you get it?

The Lucas stuff is listed as break in oil but it also lists on the bottle for use with flat tappet cam engines, I got it at advance

I'm rather confused on how much to add though, I used the whole gallon all 16oz of the lucas oil stuff and about half a quart bottle, I honestly can't tell anything from the dipstick, it barely shows the oil is so clear

Mine car takes almost 5.5 to get the oil right in the middle of the hashes.

FWIW

i am surprised nobody mentioned about the oil filters getting punctured by the idler arm. That is fairly common if you use the stock length filter (the length of the 1218). It only happens on some cars...depends on the position of the idler arm on the frame rail. It is adjustable. Also, usually you can dent up the filter countless times before it gets a hole in it. I started using napa filters that were a couple inches shorter and they don't interfere with the idler arm.

Synthetic makes rear main leak too much.
Real mineral oil makes it leak just the correct amount for a tta with the genuine original factory leak.

I dont trust phony oil. God makes better oil than man.

i just thought of something. Why is the whole world worrying about running out of oil, if we can just use synthetic?

I mean...so what if there is no more oil left in the ground. Just start making gasoline and diesel out of synthetic oil. Can they make synthetic crude oil? how about making synthetic gasoline??

How come no one has thought of this.

I found a lot today in R&S Strauss. I picked them up while I am waiting to pick up my car.

Found this Trick Flow additive while at Summit coming back from the nats. Here is the label!

My car is on the truck coming up to Michigan ...
The man who sold it also has a couple of Turbo Buicks that get close to 600 HP. He told me to do the following:

Use synthetics for oil
Add Z-Max to the oil at oil change and also add Z-Max to the gas tank 2 times per year.
He said nothing else is needed.

From reading the Z-Max website it seems that Z-Max can be added to both regular and synthetic oil and I could also add the ZDDP to the oil as well.

What do you guys think about the Z-Max?

I was in Auto Zone tonight and I saw the STP Oil Treatment (blue bottle). Is this the same formula as the 4-cylinder Oil treamtment (red bottle)? I used the 4-cylinder oil treatment when I just started the TTA that I bought that sat for 8 years.

Not the same, but does have zinc and phosphorus but not as much as the red. Also the blue is thicker than the red.

So stick with the red? I remember a member stating that the red was discontinued in some states. If it is discontinued in NY would the blue be a good substitute?

The blue is fine. I opted for getting ZDDPlus on EBay since it is cheaper there.

This vendor has the best price plus free shipping.

Real good stuff, but $8.00 a bottle shipped is not bad considering what you get. JMO
