GM to pull the plug on PONTIAC!!!

If this occurs it will be a sad day! Like some of you, I grew up with Pontiac. From the age of 5, after seeing a ’76 Pontiac 50th anniversary edition T/A pull up next to my dad, all I ever wanted was a Trans Am. I was secretly hopping that if the Camaro did well, we might see another Firebird, but now that doesn’t look like it will be.:drop: This is what we get when we allow our government to buy into our free market.

I think the Camaro is going to do really well, I just dont know that theres a place for a Firebird in a market now that already has the Mustang, Challenger and the Camaro, its not the 70s the foreign makes also are a factor now too.

I have 4 pontiacs in my family. The 2 TA's my G6, and Gina has a G6 as well. We were looking into trading my G6 in next year on a G8. But with pontiac gone I don't think I will buy another GM. Buick is great in China. But other than that they are making very boring cars. They should bring back the GN's. Caddys are more than I went to spend for a daily driver. Chevys are ok. Love the vettes, and the malibu is ok (no sun and sound package ect). So I don't think that GM will have a car that will fit my needs.

I feel the same way...where to now?? I've been trying to like the Lucerne, but that's not going well.

I've even thought about going backwards 5 years and buy a low mile Bonneville and just moth-balling it till we're ready to lose the GXP.But that seems silly at this point.

Its been alot of years though since theres been any real "excitement" at Pontiac, its a bunch of rebadged models from other divisions that they didn't even bother to restyle.

The G3 and G5 barely look any different or even have the nicer models that exist in the Chevy lineup.

G8 is the best thing they got and for the price its almost a Caddy

Buick will not go away yet. For some reason the people over in Japan and China go ape shit over Buicks. They sell the hell out of them over there so that will keep that alive for now. Saturn is the only part of GM that is making money right now. But Pontiac is going to go away for sure. I went by a huge Pontiac dealer tonight and they had maybe 12 cars on the lot!! I went by another Pontiac dealer and the same thing maybe 24 cars on the lot. GM would keep a 9 month supply of cars on hand at all times but I think that's dropped way down to maybe a month's worth. Bad times for them and Chrysler is not long to follow!

Oh well maybe this will drive the price of TTA's up!

Noooooooooooo!!!!:jaw: LOL. I'm still looking to buy a TTA but with the Canadian Dollar at about $0.81 US at present the economics don't quite work.

On the other hand, if the prices for TTAs and perhaps Thirgens in general go up, that would be good.

But it could also be a double-edged sword. If the Pontiac brand fades into obscurity, what does that mean down the road (no pun intended - okay, maybe a little one). What is the collectible value of a Hudson, Studebaker, MG, Triumph......other than to a select group of hard-core enthusiasts?

Big Black Buick sells like hotcakes in Japan and China. You are considered high class if you own one from what I have been told.

So any predictions as to what this will do for the values of our cars, Firebirds and Pontiac's in general? I would think it has to fair better than the Olds did? This brings me back to the summer of "02 when Gm scrapped the F-body, that was their death sentence.

I think thier problems go back much further then '02.

What's tragic is that the fed is going to end up with majority shares of common stock...which will end up in whose hands? take a guess.?

I thought Buick would go first as well. But i guess lots of seniors have to have their buick...
Im thinking this will really help the value of our cars...

I don't see it making much difference really, 2002 with the cancellation of the F-body would have more to do with it than now. Pontiac has been dead in alot of folks eyes for a long time.

The great shame about Pontiac's fall.... a company that started in 1926 is SQUARELY on the shoulders of the last 25 years of former General Managers of Pontiac, both male & female.. who were for the most part seat warmer.. they oversaw stupid change that had NO meaning.. like killing off great brand names associasted with Pontiac and replaced them with meaningless numbers.. they stole personality, concept & SO SO importanly..."brand recognition" .. and history for WHAT... "LE6000, P2000 & Aztec's..... sorry.. but what a load of crock... with little or NO enthusiasm for cars.. and just like the choice seen today to kill off GM's # 3 seller .. but keep GMC re-badging.. when all they do is really rebadge Chevy trucks...... or is that just a move to keep the payouts to dealerships down...?

In GM's top Management it seems.. are very few truely interested car people .... persons who give more care to their product then the " party" .. and Pontiac General Managers were all simply party seat warmers moving thru a system...in the last 25 years.

You can't run a Car company that lives on style with bean counters & lawyers who are all "party men" and expect SOMEHOW.. the company to survive. Better Pontiac Dies now then entertains any more of these pathetic career managers who are not car enthusiasts & have not vison whats so ever.

The GTA & TTA were probably the last great Pontiac.

Now we will settle back for Chinese made Buicks.. and beleive me they are THERE RIGHT NOW.. with a GM USA generated manufacturing ability that blows the doors off any US plant going, both financially cost effective and productivity... thats if you block out the human factor....!

WOW.. We certainly have lived thru the best of times... Glad I saw it.. sorry for the next generation going in school now... !
